Should i buy an ultrabook for rome 2?

Hey guys im wondering if anyone can help me out and others who are also wondering the same thing.


So im looking to buy an ultrabook or even a laptop of some sort i remember watching a video of intel talking about how people can play rome 2 on ultrabooks on trains and planes etc so that got me thinking if i should buy one for rome 2?

But people also told me that ultrabooks are not meant for gaming, What should i do?

What specification should i be looking for Example ram size etc....

Laptops are not for gaming. Not only will you be paying an inflated price (due to it being a small portable laptop) but most laptops have crappy integrated graphics chips, and they cannot be upgraded.

Mine is Lenovo, Intel core i7, 8gb ram, Radeon HD6570M 1GB GDDR5 video card.

I bought the laptop because of school, but I still wanted to game. If you can buy a desktop it would be better as others have said.

i would never recommend a laptop for gaming. the price/performance ratio is just too bad. however, if money is no problem and you re always under way then go for it

I wouldn't do it. Ultrabooks are not good for games.

With the new Haswell chip you probably could run it, but probably on low settings and with small unit sizes.

The key factor is mobility. If you need to work on a few places throughout the day (for example, university, gatherings with colleagues, etc), then go for laptop.
But if you only wish to play Rome II in your bed or during the launch break at work, then I don't think it is worth it. Desktop computers are more powerful and cost a bit less. So if your priority is gaming, just spend your money on a desktop PC and enjoy maximum performance.

Price depends.
The one I'm after is about €1400 in my country. If I want an SSD drive, additional RAM, glossy 3D display instead of normal matte the price goes up. Just look for "Asus G750JX" in your local shops - there will be a variety of different configurations for this model.

I wouldn't go for that model. well I don't recommend asus notebooks in general, and while the g750 works and its actually better than its previous brothers, it doesn't offer the power of a real gaming notebook.

basically if you want a real one, just go for clevo, msi, or aw. when asus launches the g750 with the 780m after I see if it won't throttle I might recommend it. so far the 770m loses badly to the 780m and as a measure nvidia is going to rebrand the 680m as the 775m, which is still a good fair more powerful than the 770m

aside power, it comes with the pricing, asus puts their G line to compete in price with msi and the lower tiers aw, while not offering what those 2 offers, which is better mobility, coupled with better battery life.

although if you are mad enough to consider such a heavy notebook as mobile and such a large as portable, the much larger dimensions and usually weight of the asus doesn't come to mind. having said that warranty is another thing you should consider.

For people saying about desktops, there is a clear benefit in having only one pc, aside that if you are looking for something with ultrabook characteristics, (which the asus G can never and never will enter), you are not concerned with buying a desktop.

btw for a more portable gaming solution the clevo from the N series 15" is a much better and interesting choice, aside that the panel is of higher quality than the ones offered in 17" models

aside that I bet that if I bench a single 780m against the majority of the rigs that you guys have I will win a lot, lest not I use 2x 780m. and no it doesn't throttle or overheats and no, I won't compete in price.

I agree with your remarks regarding the GPUs. Unfortunatelly, in my case the local market is limited - I can't find any store in the country offering a laptop with GTX 680M (except some OVERPRICED Alienware). And the cheapest models with GTX 780M would cost me €360 more, which is more than my budget.
Anyway, thanks for the insight! You point out some good options for people who desire playing Rome on mobile computers.

there are 2 quality thin and lights, the rmbp 15 and the razer blade 14.

the asus UX51, the samsung series 7 chronos (or ativ whatever number), dell xps 15, the asus n550 throttle, all of them do that.

I would grab the blade or the clevo w230st, though the latter isn't thin, its light enough

and btw there are no gaming ultrabooks, not for TW at least. to be an ultrabook you have to follow a spec list from intel
