Question, about the dutch.

Hi, Im from the netherlands, and i was wondering what faction holland came from in the medieval era. i was thinking about the Germans, but i'm not sure if they are in the game.
I hope you understand my question, i couldn't formulate it in english.

Simply Holland was part of the Holy Roman Empire during the Middle Ages and was gobbled up by the Burgundy during the late Middle Ages.

Just search for the County of Holland and/or the Low Countries on the net and you should find the information you want.

So in answer I would say Holy Roman Empire

Only the south of the Netherlands was ever Roman, with the Rhine functioning as the boarder.
North of the Rhine is best described as "independent" during the Roman era.

But then there wasn't much North of the Rhine anyways.
Very few people lived in what was still a swamp back then, and it played no significant military, cultural or economic role.
The Romans could easily have conquered it but simply didn't bother because no Roman wanted to live in a swamp and there wasn't any coin in it anyways.

I should also point out that the geography of the Netherlands has dramatically changed over the ages.

Aren't we talking about the Medieval era though? The other posters were talking about the Holy Roman Empire (Germany).

I can assure you that shortly after my campaign starts holland will be scottish. (along with every other western european faction)
