    Default Overclocking Haswell

    Anyone else working on this in the run up to Rome II? Goal is to get a good 24/7 haswell overclock for gaming.

    I have a i5 4670 K and an ASRock Extreme 4 motherboard. Using Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to stress test; was using Aida64 originally but my 30 day trial period has expired.

    Anyway, I am at 4.4. Mhz at 1.2 V with high temps 65 C under full load. Ran IETU 7 hours stress test and passed. Tried same at 1.17 V and it failed at some point during an overnight run.

    Running memory at its rated speed 2133 mhz timings: 9-11-10-28.

    I'd probably quit if I can get to 4.5 mhz at under 1.25 V with same temps.

    Any suggestions?

    push the multi up and raise voltage its no different than other CPUs in the past

    however for finding max stable overclock you are better off using a STATIC voltage instead of offsets and addative voltage. The reason for this is if you stress test with Prime95 / Aida64 stability test with FPU only selected etc these tests and IBT use AVX extentions which force the voltage 0.10 higher so if you set 1.15 it will boost to 1.25 in that test only.

    so use a Static locked voltage raise the multi till you find your max safe stable, then adjust via offset voltages untill you hit roughly where you were with static and retest.

    If you had a better motherboard with the right features. I could tell you exactly what your CPU will overclock to and what voltage it will need.

    essentially on certain mobos like the MSI GD-65 Gaming on first boot it gives you the chips vid as it comes on its own before auto settings ./ overclock changes it. The Cache and CPU voltage as shown on certain boards can actually be used to grade and therefor BIN Intels chips on how well they will overclock.

    Just remember haswell has a 154w TDP Hard limit so if your chip at 1.2-1.25v manages to pull 154w at 4.4-4.5 thats as high as you will be able to go.
