When they played the Carthage campaign on Youtube you could see that Epirus was conquered by Sparta. Unless Epirus is controlled by a human player it won't do to well. Shame because if this was real life Sparta would probably have a harder time than Epirus.

it looks like the greeks will generally get gangbanged by each other. My first campaign will be athens and I plan on taking crete and Rhodes since those two cities are independent. use that income to fuel a was against sparta and then head north![]()

Well Epirus is only at war with Sparta. And Sparta - being a vassal - has very limited diplomatical freedom, so if Epirus made a treaty with Macedon, then surely Sparta would have to capitulate. Epirus and Etruria are on their way out, and don't last much longer than the game's start, but still, it's Macedon that should have the power in Greece, not Sparta or Epirus

Sparta is not a vassal, they are just allies with macedon, Athens is the vassal to macedon

He who joyfully marches to music rank and file, has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action. It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.
sparta can call for help at any time when fighting epirus so that athens and macedon can join sparta in the war.
this can give epirus the largest territorial disadvantage of all the greek states (and yes, i do sort of count macedon as one of the greek states despite not being in the dlc, because when i played rome 1 i sorted the factions into groups based off of their military styles. For example the roman families, the barbarians, the people from the east and the greeks).
Macedonias spoke Greek, wrote Greek, fought like Greek, had Greek names,Greek ideas, worshipped Greek gods, took part in the Olympic Games and were considered Greek! They just had a harder accent...It's stupid for someone not considering them Greek!!
I'm guessing Epirus' campaign will be a bit harder than Sparta's?
A possible strategy might be to spend as much as possible on mercenaries to fight on both fronts. If the player can defeat Sparta, they can disband those troops to fund the Northern effort against Macedonia? Or reach out to Rome to help? Depends on the diplomatic menu of course and how much Rome favors Epirus.
Yeah, It's an Ironman scenario however they throw it. Historically Rome wouldn't favor Epirus at all, as their invasion was a recent memory. Phillip V of Macedon allied with Carthage soon after Hannibal's successes, because he feared Roman power was inevitably headed east. Macedon is one of the three most powerful starting positions, probably the second, and to add two surrounding factions at war for a playable faction requires a disclaimer for campaign difficulty. There might be another element we don't know about, such as a large Epiriot starting army, or a starting mission that requires you to make peace with Macedon, or something to that end.
