The moors like taking southern france via naval invasions, try to hold them off at defensive sieges and they probably wont be coming back too soon.

Early Era... Byzantines are pretty strong.

Late Era, Mongols dominate then Timurids dominate. Fatimids are super good too.

In my campaign Aragon, England, Hungary and Kiev have all done really well for themselves. But I'm HRE and have supported Aragon England and Hungary so that's probably why

Most of the people say that Turks are one of the strongest factions in SS, but they always get destroyed by Egypt or even Mongols. I know that Hungary is strong in late era, they always take Greece. Maybe even Novgorod. In one of my campaigns they reminded me of Soviets and plus they got in Asia Minor and Poland.

No faction is overpowered all depends how you play your campaign when you attack one faction, an other faction witch is near the faction that you attack will be more strong because you brake the balance of power so if you attack the moors propably Spain Aragon Portugal and Sicily will became stronger because moors will be more weaker.
But yea some factions are more powerful than others and it is a reason for this. Fatimids is so strong because it is hard for them to have good relations with other factions (crusader target all the time) and most of the times they are the bane of Mongols if the player don;t interfere, same goes for Moors the are all the time at war with Spain Aragon Portugal and Sicily so they must be strong.
Hungary is strong at late era campaing because most times they forge an alliance with Poland and the other neared faction are weak, HRE most times go excommunicate and at war with all the Catholics,BYZANTIUM is very weak , with Venice most times have alliance and Venice prefer to attack the Byzantium, HRE and Genoa so he haven;t a lot open fronts to fight
So all Depends from the player and his Actions that why you must think who you attack and who will be good to have alliance with.

The Fatimids always end up conquering the Middle-East in my campaigns. Then they inevitably steamroll the Romans. I supposed the balance assumes there will be crusades, but when I play there are almost none and the Saracens expand unmolested.

In one of my campaigns they conquered Africa, half of ME (Middle East), Asia Minor and Greece. They are pretty overpowered.

EDIT: They are even resisting Mongols!

Yeah, in the long run, my money's on Egypt. However, since the AI doesn't garrison more than three units in its non-border regions, they're a rich hit-and-run raiding target if you can get a couple armies with some siege equipment to their shores. In one campaign I sacked ~200k florins in two turns from their coastal holdings from Benghazi to Adana (forgot about Cairo though). It helped that I was on crusade at the time with the extra movement points, so I simply hit the crusade target (Acre) last.

I think what makes Egypt so overpowered is the amount of weight put onto Saracen militia in auto-resolve. I faced an army of three of these units and a unit of Kurdish javelinmen, and despite the fact I had cavalry, a 3-star general, my own spearmen, archers and my own javelins, the battle was still put at a ratio of 1:1! Of course in reality it was an easy massacre for me due to vastly outnumbering them, out ranging them and having much greater firepower and manoeuvrability with my cavalry, but it just shows how powerful they are considered by the AI. And given that they're cheap and relatively accessible it's no coincidence that I encounter Egyptian armies with lots of them, and in AI vs AI battles they're going to steamroll just about anything.
