We do not want the gaming staff messing with our hotseats! We were doing fine without them, and now someone like Grouchy has the power to ban hotseat players??? That is not a good thing.
Will and act until victory
Gaming Staff do not interfere with unofficial hotseats unless their presence is requested. Their role is to simply operate the official ones. You've been told this already, please process it.
I stand with Desley on this, you the Gaming Staff can do whatever the like on their terf (Gaming Staff Hotseats and the Gaming Staff members) but I don't like it that you take Mith from us like that. And now we will need to find replacements in 10 Hotseats which he participated in, plus Invicta leaving, and Arrow leaving, and Stouff leaving Gaming Staff (so we need to find admins for like 5 more Hotseats)
"Gaming Staff are corrupt!"
"Punishment for Gaming Staff members that cheat is too harsh!"
Take your pick. Either we're corrupt or too hard on ourselves, not both.
Will and act until victory
Can we have someone else in the Westeros community promoted to Gaming Staff? We've gone from having 5 members to 3 in a matter of days, and Dux is currently away, leaving us with only 2 (who have the responsibility of admining probably around 75-80% of the hotseats in that forum)
This
I'd say that in the stead of Stouff and Mith, Tavix and The Forgotten should be promoted to Gaming Staff or else the 2 Gaming Staff remaining atm will collapse, talking with Emperor of Hell has shown me that the pressure is too high, and Louis is also collapsing under the pressure
thats why i quit
it was simply too much time i spent on subbing etc. real life actually forces me to make cuts.
one might say being ivolved in 13 hotseats as admin and/or co admin is a bit much indeed
ahahah sorry Drako but that was just too funny![]()
Old age and treachery will always beat youth and exuberance-David Mamet
Old age and forgetfullness makes it . . .er, I forgot-Loose Cannon
I, contrary to what hotseaters here say, support what the Gaming Staff has done.
Cheating is a real problem here, and I bet mostly all will cheat without a moment's pause if they knew they could not be caught.
This action is simply raising the bar. This is a community, it's TWC, not your own forum... Do what you will on whatever sites you want, but here TWC allows us to play hotseats and protects us from cheaters, trolls and other such hotseat-killers.
People should be punished for cheating, for up until now I saw little such actions against cheating... and it does not do us any favor. We need real actions, like this.
Now I will agree that Mith's 3 month ban is harsh, I believe it's because it should be a clear example for all of us.
Why him and not some other less liked member ? Need I explain why favoring some players over others when punishing is wrong ? Justice should be fair and blind for a reason.
And not in the least, Desley, you've been caught cheating so many times, and have ruined plenty of people's hotseats with your dirty ways. I despise people like you a lot.
I'm offering myself up for Gaming Staff for a short period of time like a month or two, until you guys can find better people on a permanent basis.
This, GS actually maintain a small number of HS. Officially at the least, these are 'Immortals', 'Proving Grounds' & 'Young Bloods' in WTW and a single YB's HS in this area. The large percentage of HS you mention are independent HS, not endorsed by the Branch or HS in which GS have been requested to act as impartial admins. Can we have someone else in the Westeros community promoted to Gaming Staff? We are looking into the promotion of more Staff, defiantly in the WTW area and I have a member lined up for the main area to replace StOuFf. I have spoken to some of our Staff, not all in regards to their work loads and if the Independent HS they admin and the GS HS are creating a burn out situation I'll suspend GS HS, what they do with there Independent HS is there concern but I won't have Staff burned out on account of maintaining GS HS.

It's sort of funny. Not but one week ago Mith and I were speaking over Steam, and he was trying to convince me to join a Hot Seat game. I don't play multiplayer really, because I feel that people get in the way of the actual experience, and lo and behold my point being proven before my very eyes.
Now, Im not particularly well-versed in how hot seats work, of course. However, based on my own understanding of the rules and, indeed, the majority opinion in this thread and others, it seems that Mith's three infractions are quite minor, especially the fort one which was the fault of the game engine itself (Silly thing, not being able to disband a general.) He personally admits that he did these things, and he even agrees that it would not be an overreaction to remove him from the Gaming Staff. However, a three month ban for small, easily fixed and, most importantly, unintentional rule breaks is not only stupidly over-reacting, but it's clearly a transparent knee-jerk reaction to the recent accusations of playing favorites.
Do you know how you keep a good reputation in something like this? You do it by upholding a clear, fair, unbiased system of rules that benefit the people actually playing the game. Mith's actions could easily have been handled with punishments ingame, without resorting to a ridiculous extended ban. Especially considering that, as several posters have attested to, the ban only results in problems for people actually playing the individual Hot Seats. Far worse problems, mind you, than anything that Mith did in game.
The meaningless politicking of the GS has neither benefited the community nor upheld their reputation in a positive light. Frankly, with this sort of interference in the Hot Seat games, being clear detriments to such games, I cannot even see the reason that Mithridate promoted this place so excitedly. I certainly will not be joining, and I wouldn't recommend anyone else to either.

Never argue with an idiot; they'll drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.
Anf this based on what? How can you even say that without being part of the HS? He broke 4 rules (one is a cheat actually) in 3 different HS. In 2 of them (TiioK and Immortals) he would get decisive victories, which would destroy 3 factions.
3 factions (played by 3 players) destroyed by cheats. Is that what you call minor?
You're serious?especially the fort one which was the fault of the game engine itself (Silly thing, not being able to disband a general.)
Unintentional? Is that your opinion based on what? He certainly broke 3 of them intentionally. And other than the fact that he couldn't deny breaking them (and so goes your silly assertion that he admitted.. ), in one case he even omitted to the adminHe personally admits that he did these things, and he even agrees that it would not be an overreaction to remove him from the Gaming Staff. what he gained from breaking the rule and was getting away (until I intervened) with a punishment that he would make him gain from breaking the rule.

Ah..now I see..The meaningless politicking of the GS has neither benefited the community nor upheld their reputation in a positive light. Sending people to advocate your own cause..just when I thought I saw everything.
But I agree that such problems as players constantly breaking the rules won't get solved with banning: what brought players like Mithridate to do that in the first place, is the fact that admins made it convenient to break the rules with punishments that are a joke (and I have seen players -basically plainly breaking the rules, calculating that the punishment would have been less than the advantage gained-). Starting to apply serious punishments when rules are broken, that would certainly influence players to not break the rules.
As also starting to collect infos in a thread, about players breaking rules/cheating and also abandoning HS: making a chart and inflicting penalties once reached a certain score.
That way all the players will know about who is more prone to breaking rules, and keep their eyes open on them (increasing teh chances to not let them breaking the rules unnoticed).
And creating a punishment system for players who break the rules constantly: if for instance a player break 3 rules in different HS within one year, that player will get a fine in every HS he plays (e.g 5k) as also in every new HS he'll join. When an infraction gets one year old it will becanceledin this way (so still visible but with no more effects)
If he gets to break 5 rules in a year, then you increase the fine.
Cheats and omitting infos about the advantages gained, (like Mithridate did in CS) would value 2 points.
Admission to HS with medals only to players with either immaculate score (about breaking rules/abandoning HS) or the players with the lowest score of infractions.
That way you penalize the players more prone to cheating and reward the ones who care about respecting the rules. And I know many players never broke a rule in years, while others constantly break them or use exploits. Current system rewards cheaters/rule breakers and penalize the one who are respecting those.
This simple system would reduce the phenomenon of abandoning HS to join new ones (as players will get penalized by doing that in the new HS, the more they do that), as also players leaving HS because there are few ones like Mithridate who get rewarded by cheating (and I know quite a few who left for such reason).
A system with clear rules, rather than leaving an arbitrary power in the hands of few: players will know what expect them and no one will complain when they'll get harshly punished.
