Was it said that they'd return in Rome II or will it be like Empire/Shogun II?

Given the timeframe setting, I would be surprised if they were not in.

Yeah I missed those from Med2. Was amusing when most of your generals became drunkards.

Not only epithets, also the titles, for example the title of King, Great King, King of Kings, King of Asia and many more, which was common for the Eastern rulers, when they were gaining more power
they also extended their titulature. That must be in the game if it is possible

Through your intercession I hope to see the light of Thy son and the light of everlasting ages !
Would be a nice comeback..

We already have seen that the generals have traits, ancillary and skills.
I miss that a lot from the old TW games. If they wanted to please me, they would give us more Generals again and let us turn some of them into great commanders and others into title holding admistrators. Those attributes where always fun to read (especially the tooltips).
Most of the good MTW 2 mods make great use of the epithets and items a General can own and I don't understand why they thought it would be better to give us skilltrees instead. I personally would prefer a combination of all three systems, but that might be too much for the so called "casual" gamer. And we all know a game of this magnitude needs to appeal to the masses for financial reasons. So I am happy that they brought back traits and ancillaries, while keeping and hopefully pushing the skill tree system, which is also nice.
My signature is running from the battlefield. A SHAMEFUR DISPRAY!
Skill tree is not as fun as epithets and traits/ancillary of MTW2 plus it offers perfect control to players which is bad for game design to me but there were also alot of problems with the former system too easily becoming overpowered or getting into a negative trait line which I think is good but alot of people complained about.
Some mixture of skill tree with a few traits (which are less powerful) and ancillaries/retainers/items is probably the best outcome because skill tree along can't make generals personalized enough to care. All my generals are 1 general really since they all have exactly same skill tree results and only 1 or 2 different ancillaries in Shogun 2. I hope Rome 2 improves that but so far it does not appear to be.
