Default Day 1 DLC in Hong Kong

I live in Hong Kong and Total War: Rome 2 is locked on Steam in my region. I bought the game on GamersGate but I am not sure if I am can activate the Pontus Day 1 DLC on Steam. Anyone knows if this is going to work?

...do you mean the game is unavailable to you through Steam in that region? or that the game hasn't unlocked yet?

Maybe it'll be hard even to install and unlock the game then
BTW, the Pontus DLC is not a proper DLC, it will come as a part of the day-0 patch.
Disclaimer: the post above is way way prealpha, the final version will be way better than this.

Mmm, you'll need to connect to Steam initially to unlock the game itself...I'm not even sure it'll let you do that if it's not available in your region.

Steam has fixed many loopholes that allowed for purchase over a VPN client with a second account. Also you risk your actual account to be banned, which would be a massive loss to most of us by now. Since you already bought the game you might want to contact the steam support and see what they have to say about it.

I live in Germany and have to deal with this issue of regionally blocked content a lot, since my government hates freedom and uses its own age-tier system instead of PEGI like the rest of Europe. But, this is the silver lining here, whenever I had a key for a DLC or game that wasn't available in my region it worked just fine! The trouble is obtaining the key, for which there are websites in existence by now, which are legal but sometimes a bit more expensive than the steam store. If the DLC is free, but has to be added to the game via Steam (like free HD Texture packs and such optional things), you will have to use a VPN client to mask your location. You will then be able to view the website of said DLC in the Steam client and be able to add this free DLC to your game, if you have the version that this DLC is made for (if I view the Shogun 2 blood pack via a VPN in the UK Store it will show me a message, that I don't own the Game, because I own the German retail version of it e.g.). If the DLC has a price tag you will need to buy a key for it via an outside source again or ask a nice member of this forum to gift it to you while you repay them on paypal or sth. similar.

Hope this cleared up some questions. In what form the Pontus DLC will be in the game is unknown to me as of now, so I can't say which case applies, but I am sure with a little ingenoutiy you will get it.

so basically order a box copy from any online retailer(have someone you know order it and shipped it to you) and steam will have no choice but to validate the purchase + support it? that is kinda cool if true. I really don't see why not as the buyer would be a legit customer.

“The only rule that ever made sense to me I learned from a history, not an economics, professor at Wharton. "Fear," he used to say, "fear is the most valuable commodity in the universe." That blew me away. "Turn on the TV," he'd say. "What are you seeing? People selling their products? No. People selling the fear of you having to live without their products." freakin' A, was he right. Fear of aging, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of failure. Fear is the most basic emotion we have. Fear is primal. Fear sells.” WWZ

take a look at the steam DB : http://steamdb.info/sub/27579/
Luckily, this doesn't say anything about PurchaseRestrictedCountries or onlyallowrunincountries for romeII pre-order.
For retail, we have Total War: Rome II Retail (CN) as well, i guess there will be retail in China region anyway.
I also pre-order the game in GMG, i could only hope the same magic will do for me as when i activated FOTS last time.
i am not saying it is for sure we can play the game in HK but i find this kinda calm me down knowing steam seem to make on restriction on pre-order so far.

Maybe you should ask someone that can buy the game and send you through trade/gift in steam.

I live in HK too and i have no problems with activating free DLCs in previous titles in steam. (i pre-ordered the games from local retailers on the street)
so im pretty sure we can activate the DLC this time too...dont worry, if we can activate the game in steam, so will be the free DLCs.
just that i also had problems buying DLCs on steam, which i solved by using VPN clients in the past...not sure if it still works now.

just dont understand why TW has region restriction in steam...its stupid

I also live in Hong Kong, and had originally ordered through amazon. But I cancelled the amazon order and I plan to pre-order through a retail store. It's on Nathan Road. In a basement near the Yau ma tei MTR stop. The shop guy says that I'll definitely get the pre-order dlc. He told me I would get it, I didn't ask which I think is reassuring.

Can't buy it through steam, or maybe it will be released on steam weeks or months later for HK & china.

I don't like gamersgate either and why not get a box copy instead of just some serial number in the cloud?
