    Default A future for Governors?

    Hello friends,

I, like most of you, am very excited for the release of Rome II. It's close to exactly what I want out of a game in this genre and that doesn't come around very often and looks to outmatch the original Rome in several aspects. However there is one thing I think I will miss the Rome had, but no game since used...governors.

I really enjoyed using academies to train up my family members in administration/management for a few years, then send them off to the far reaches of the Empire to take care of some of my larger settlements. This became especially enjoyable with some of the mods (RTR primarily, with the Imperator II add-on). I know it's not really an administration simulator but managing the traits and retinue of these family members is part of what made the original Rome so...I don't know...something... and from what I've seen this feature is not returning...

Would you want something like this to return to the Total War games (maybe in the expansion or sequel)? Or do you see it as a distraction from the what you or the game is trying to achieve? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

It's going to be a different system of traits and retinue than we had in the original Rome; less random and more directed in both cases. However, I would love to see a building that could confer some advantages. While administrative simulation is hardly the primary focus of the Total War games, having things to do besides war that affect your faction has always been one of the strengths.

The new system is by far more random than the previous since the player can only select his retinue from a cast of three without any link to what the character have been doing. More "directed" is indeed the right word since the player can directly turn a general than never saw or approach the sea into the most skilled admiral.

I would like to see dedicated governor titles for either each region or each province.
