The Steam Total War Petition was successive (refer below) but there are still some demands to fulfill:
working global chat lobby (refer example picture below)
Rome 1: you see all players and active lobby
Napoleon 2: no players visible, chat empty - everything is broken
Shogun 2: you can see only some people, no system behind that, chat is mostly empty as you do not see your friends online (you got on your steam friends list) anyway, so you are forced to use Steam chat.
Rome 2: a mix of Napoleon and Shogun 2 chat mess.
Visit the chat lobby comparion in this thread or
Follow the support thread for this issue on totalwar.com
Lobby is currently 99% perfect in functionality but it does not work actually. Chat lobby is disabled by default and the button is well hidden upper left (Windows 8 greets you)
Players are split into dozends of regions world wide, according to their set Steam Download region. So you cannot see games, and online players nor chat with all of them.
Common chat is empty, no players no working public chat, only the rooms work, but they are limited to regions aswell so do not expect your friends can see your created chat room. Please fix this asap.
We cannot talk and invite foreign people into games anymore, nor we can talk to them after a battle. We approach players and then after a battle disappear for each other again, unless we have luckily the same Steam Download region. This is not tolerateable.
Even other big games have working global chat lobbies, Rome 1 had. Creative Assembly put a lot of effort into this chat actually and improved it a lot, you can even now use cut & past to ease stating rules like CWB without the hassle of repetitive new typing. All is going into a well direction but actually the chat is like a car full featured but you do not have the keys for that car (no working global chat, no players to see)
- customisable weather / daylight in matchmade battles
- customiseable battle timers
- Unit size cannot be changed in classical battles, not even if you go to options > graphics > advanced settings, these unit size settings does not apply for classical multiplayer atm.
- Free for all multiplayer game mode (for Prince of Macedon & fans)![]()

Thankfully CA have decided to let some demands of the Total War Petition (TWPG) come true:
- we demanded to let down avatar, units customisation and skilling > done
- TWPG demanded to go back to the classical battles > done
- TWPG demanded a rework of ladders > done, only victories shown may be odd for "hardcore ladder players" but W/L ratio lead to loads of lag / disconnect forcing to prevent a loose entry. That is a shameful dispray.
Thanks god CA followed the community wish to fix this hacking noobs by this easy measure, even it may cost honest players some reputation and may rage them.
- TWPG demanded even to go back to classical unit skilling > done
- TWPG demanded more formations > done, and beyond CA had a great idea to give all units special abilities which grants a delightful gaming at the moment.
- TWPG demanded to enlarge the battle maps compared to Shogun 2 > done
- TWPG demanded to have a map editor like we had in Rome 1 > done, and beyond the same basic technique we used in Rome 1 to make custom maps, we have now in Rome 2 so we can pick a location freely on the campaign map
- TWPG demanded alternate attack mode like in Rome 1 > done
- TWPG demanded an enchanced chat lobby with better blocking features. > done, we have loads of new commands, resizeable chat, lockable chat, chat hiding etc etc etc
- TWPG demanded cut & paste on the chat lobby, so it is easier to repeat game longer rules (CWB or sorts) > done
