Thread: Titanium Suggestions & Complaints

Is there any way to make crossbowmen more useful? I mean, it would be great if they could arc their shots up just a little bit so that if there is something in front of them they can actually still be of use.

...or maybe it's just a CA thing that can't be fixed where for the hundredth time they royally ed up when making their game.

My guess is it can be fixed by tweaking the descr_projectile.txt file.
Every projectile has two numerical entries next to it's "velocity" stat.
I suspect if you make the first entry a smaller number the trajectory of the projectile will be more curved.

M2TW is a good game, much better than many who followed.
But it could be further improved.
Too bad they stopped supporting it.

My greatest beef with the crossbows is that they cannot shoot downwards from the ramparts.
That, I do not know how to fix.

Anyone looked into glorious achievements like in mtw1 as victory conditions? I would have to look at the game again to refresh my memory, but there were achievement victories such as controlling all the wool in northern Europe & similar achievements.

I changed all the first entries for crossbows to 35, and it works much much better. I believe my crossbowmen will get more than 10 kills a battle now!

I agree. Although after playing over 900 hours of the game and having witnessed hundreds of bugs, many of which can be fixed by merely changing a value, it makes me wonder how much they rushed when making the game, or how incompetent those who worked on it were. Oh well, at least now that CA is going to be making a new TW every year maybe we'll get to play Medieval 3 in the near future.

"Hundreds of bugs" in the vanilla version of the game?
Or "hundreds of bugs" in one mod or another?
Having not played vanilla in many-many years I cannot say I remember myself but I think you may be exaggerating a bit.

    It's the first (rushed).
    They had to.
All those developers, while working in a new project, are getting payed with money that would be generating profit immediatelly if invested in something else.
Ergo they will always have a limited time to work upon the project before it begins to incur a cost of opportunity greater than the value of an alternative investment.
It is a standard problem with all "financialised" corporate entities.

O.K. buddy I think you need to work on detecting sarcasm, and maybe brighten up a little.

Anyways, when they released Medieval 2 Total War it could hardly be called a finished product, and IDGAF about investments, doesn't mean when I have to pay full price for an unfinshed buggy game I can't be pissed off about it. People like you who defend that terrible business model make me sick, and it's people like you who are the reason it exists in the first place. This is why I haven't bought a TW game since, and probably never will TBH. Luckily amazing people like Meloo make mods like these.

    BACK ON TOPIC

I think I'll take those values you mentioned and tinker around with the ballistas. I wonder if I can make them accurate enough to actually be a worthwhile addition in my armies...

Not defending the business model one bit, just explaining it.
A very good computer game is as much art as it is science.
And both of those require imagination, lots of it and cannot be rushed without compromising the result.
The only business model that can work reasonably well is that of crowdfunding.
As far as I know crowdfunding usually occurs in genres that have been neglected by the industry.
I don't expect to see crowdfunding in our genre.

If you find a way to make crosbowmen shoot straight -or almost straight- down the walls, I'll be much in your debt!

I like to train my new family members in castles before sending them away with armies of their own. So once they come of age, I send them straight to a vacant settlement. Somehow though, they will aquire "poor with cavalry" or "poor with infantry" traits despite not fighting a single battle.

If this is one of those traits that just has a 5% chance of triggering for no reason, I strongly disagree with this feature and am very annoyed that it even exists. Or maybe it's just a bug. Either way, how can I make it so that it doesn't ever happen again?

One way that I can think of is to go to the data folder of the mod and open the export_descr_character_traits.txt file.
Find the "BadInfantryGeneral" entry and whenever it is followed by the entry "chance" change the number at the end of the line to 0.
Do the same with "BadCavalryGeneral" entry.

When I go find that I get this:

    Trait BadInfantryGeneral Characters family
    AntiTraits GoodInfantryGeneral

    Level Poor_with_Infantry
    Description Poor_with_Infantry_desc
    EffectsDescription Poor_with_Infantry_effects_desc
    Threshold 2

    Effect InfantryCommand -1

    Level Inept_with_Infantry
    Description Inept_with_Infantry_desc
    EffectsDescription Inept_with_Infantry_effects_desc
    Threshold 3

    Effect InfantryCommand -2

    Level Confused_with_Infantry
    Description Confused_with_Infantry_desc
    EffectsDescription Confused_with_Infantry_effects_desc
    Threshold 6

    Effect InfantryCommand -3
Is it the value after Threshold that I change to zero?

    No.
You have to go much lower in the file, to find the events that trigger the traits.
After the event happens there is a chance that the trait will be triggered.
If you set the chance to 0 it might work the way you want.

Playing as France and all of my family members are illegitimate. All of them save the starting faction heir, and his children are all illegitimate as well? Is this supposed to be happening, as a sort of French stereotype joke?

Does your faction leader have the "adulterer" trait?

He does, but his one legitimate son (the faction heir) does not, and the heir's children are all illegitimate so far

her only negative trait is "lacks charm". But she's a Danish princess and their children have the trait "of Danish blood" while also having Illegitimate

well thats a bug right there, caused by the order of the royal relation triggers and bastardson/daughter triggers
bastard triggers should be above the royal blood/relation ones so they actually deny the trait if the character is a bastard or not.

So then all the family members (and future ones) will have both traits but still be illegitimate from now on?

Nah being a bastard doesn't increase chances of fathering more bastards hehe, you just had back luck there with the Danish princess, as having only 3 hearts of charm has high chances of giving to the husband the 1st level of HorridWife trait (lacks charm), which in turn gives 20% chance of fathering bastards.

The bug is that bastards shouldn't inherit their father's wife ancestry since well they are supposed to be from another mother.
