    1) I am certain they sped the combat up to make the rally point video watchable. Notice how the unit routes exactly when Jack states they are going to route; while it was probably a voice over, it also could have been that he 'triggered' the unit to route using the engine he was working on.

    2) I absolutely loved the animations. The phalanx vs. phalanx combat was great, and even better the phalanx vs. cavalry combat looked realistic. In the original Rome, a routing cavalryman who ran into spears could not get out - period - even getting near a spear was death. This looked much better. Adriana and her coworkers should be very proud of thier accomplishment. And yes, she was a quite attractive face to put on the department.

    3) Thanks CA, for working so hard on this game.

Or it was just a saved battle.

I'm not. It's obvious why the phalanx vs phalanx engagement was so short because it was an elite unit vs a levy unit, nothing more to discuss. Jack has even confirmed it himself. Of course they partucularly chose these particular two units so the engagement wouldn't be too long.

I disagree. It is quite obvious that it is sped up. Even when Al had a crappy hoplite unit in a playthrough it stood up against an enemy for much longer than this. Also, I've never seen any TW game have units route this quickly. Not even TWS2. TWR2's battles are slower than TWS2 as well.

It's funny because I just tested a custom battle in the original Rome: Royal Pikemen (elite) vs Levy Pikemen (levy) and it only lasted around 10 seconds at most. Believe me, I've seen units rout quicker than that in TWS2.

Also, the units in the Macedon vs Rome vid were not crappy, they were in fact pretty decent: 2 units of shield brothers (pretty elite I think) and one unit of standard hoplites (key word being standard) in phalanx formation resisted for what I recall a couple of minutes against a superior number of hastati and principes (not crappy at all). This is a good example between a tightly matched engagement where neither side has an overwhelming advantage compared to a battle that is very predictable and thus, swiftly resolved.

Rest assured, a phalanx vs phalanx fight between equals will certainly last a lot longer.

Considering the debuffs Al obviously has it was very impressive how long they stood and fought.

In case of legionary charge, such throw from rear ranks would hit the own men..
    I agree

I really hope he's doing some voice work for the game.

This video definitely makes me want to play as a phalanx-using faction for my second play-through. Either Epirus or Pontus.

Armies/battles with phalanxes will look so epic!!

    Two things,

    1) The SNES made me laugh
    2) if BRIAN BLESSED were to do the voice acting for the battle advisor, that would be the most epic thing ever.

Great Rally Point. Everything looks fantastic so far, except the "battle" time but after the comment of JL here I don't have any concerns. Many thanks to the CA staff, especially Jack Lusted.

Guys remember that the "general" for the levies died...we all know what happens to morale when the general dies. had there been a general behind the levies or an elite next to them to inspire the levies it would have been a longer fight because they wouldn't have a huge morale hit. It looked like a lot survived to run away in the phalanx vs phalanx battle.

Not so sure about this one either... When Jack turns the camera to show the fleeing levies you can see a line of troops in the back where the ennemy general is probably standing. As far as I know, the death of a captain only affects the unit if it is itself the general unit. In this case it's not so likely.

Never seen animations look that good.

The excellent amins really came out in those phalanx battles. They look so fluid and realistic. Even simple forward movement is impressive.
