Default A little confusion over the Naval units...

First off, I'd just like to say that the latest video which showcased the Naval combat was really pleasing to me. I really enjoyed it and the atmosphere was very well done. I loved how the Mediterranean level was nice, bright and colourful overall and the Barbarian waters were very dark, gloomy and thunderous. A brilliant way to add atmosphere to these different regions of the world and I think CA has nailed it!

There has been quite a few bits and pieces of information about the Naval side of things but I still find myself confused as to how they fully work. If it has been said, please do pop it down here to help people like me out who do not fully understand the Naval side of things in Rome 2.

How exactly do the units on-boards ships work? In the latest preview we saw Suebian Heavy Infantry of some sorts (who looked great btw), but are they part of an army that were travelling at the time or do you actually recruit specific naval boats which actually contain certain units already on-board?

One thing I do know is that Naval units, I don't mean transports, can disembark their own units to fight on land but does that mean that you can literally buy fully-capable heavy infantry that already comes with a specific boat of it's own as part of the navy but can be used for land battles as well? So it's essentially buying an amphibious version of land forces?

I may be a little way off with this but any help would be greatly appreciated. It's just the Naval side of things that are a little bit confusing.
I personally invite you to check out my complete combat overhaul which will give you a completely new Rome 2 experience:

Regular army units will have transport ships when they are on water.

Naval units have soldiers on board when you recruit them. You don't really recruit land units that have a ship. You recruit a ship that has a soldiers on it. Those soldiers can land on shore during combined land/sea battles.

Thank you for answering. When we recruit those Naval units that have soldiers on them, I'm curious as to how much of a choice we get as to what kind of unit we have on those boats. Like, say you want a "boarding boat", one that's used for boarding etc., could we choose between Hastatii and Evocati? Obviously the price would dictate your choice etc. or just pre-set boat choices? I hope we do get some kind of choices because we can now choose what bodyguard units to give to generals now. Love the choices CA are starting to give us in terms of more in-depth gameplay.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think it works like that.

I think you will just recruit a ship and the ship comes with whatever unit is designated for it. Perhaps some of the tech upgrades will upgrade the units on board the ships.

Yes, you are basically buying an amphibious unit, which will be used on sea instead of land and will have a better ship and better fighting abilities on sea than a land unit on a transport ship. But yes, the crew of the ships is basically composed by a land unit (which I hope you will be able to choose when you recruit the ship), this is cool because you can make a lot of different combinations (various types of infantry and missile troops).
The biggest differences will be the size of the units, probably ship crews will be less strong than land units on land, and land units on transport ships will be helpless against military ships.

If we recruited war ships, do they automatically have marines on board? Does it mean we can also disembark the troops from war ships that we recruited???...

How about multiple land units boarding transport ships? Will each unit of 160 men embark into 2 transport ships?

How about 15 units composed of 160 men each? Will they embark into 30 transport ships?

Can transport ships also fight and board enemy ships in case of emergency?

I think im going to love navy this time...

    P.S.

I do also hope hope to see different variety of ships... Maybe different appearance of ships according to culture... I dont want to see ships from rome and barbarians that look alike... Ships should also have diversity...
