Default Campaign map lag -> ffdshow problem ?

I have a problem with the rome total war campaign map. It shutters badly ! Whenever I pick a city it takes 5 sec to load it and when I move across the map i takes forever to move around.
I have a i7 , 12 gb ram and 560 ti so there is nothing wrong with my PC.
The problem is old and I have had it before. I am pretty sure the problem lies with ffdshow not running or something like that. That was the problem last time!
But now I can't get it to work And I have played a lot of Rome Total War on this PC.
I have deleted the auto optimize file and stopped my Asus Hyperdrive.
So does anyone know how to fix the horrible campaign map lag ?
Is there anyone who knows how to make sure that ffdshow is running at all times ? I have tried installing it as a program but to no avail.

    regards.

    This?

Mine when it had it installed always ran great without this program installed.

It could be conflicting with the way Miles Sound system CA uses with Windows Media Player.

When you start Rome Total War you sometimes get asked about ffdshow: 'run it just this time' and 'allways run it' and so on.
Is there any way to make sure that 'allways run it' is turned on ? I had the same problem as I have now, but I fixed it by pressing 'allways on'..
But now it doesn't work after i formatted my PC.
I'm not sure if I understand your mening. Should i uninstall it again ? The program.
And if it helps I use the Steam version of the game.

I still have the original discs and never has ffdshow installed.

Try it with ffdshow uninstalled including wiping its registry entries. The program has itself set as default for some dumb developer reason. The game does not require it to run. I've been playing since its release and never heard of ffdshow until now.

Did everything and it didn't work. I have also removed divx.. So I guess I can't play ?

What other audio and video programs do you have?

It's not the game. It's all the other programs stealing what resources it uses in the first 2gb of ram. As old as the code is, I don't think it even "sees" all 4gb that is available for XP based programs.

Ever try something like Game Booster to shut down the programs not needed by the game?

Nope no difference. Tried stopping a lot with the program..

I am still pretty sure that it's something to do with ffdshow.
Last time my game ran like a dream...

    It probably does.

Have you run a good free registry cleaner or at least regedit?
