Ridiculous size both width and length. Roman 45 m long Quinquereme one of the heaviest Roman ships vs two barbarian monstrous longships. Just to compare largest viking longships were 30m long. Also i miss javelins, which was one of the major weapons in viking naval battles.

Steam ships in the 1700's or 1800's is not completely unrealistic or ahistorical. Steam technology has existed since the 1500's. There were also Steam boats around in the mid-1700's at least.
I agree with you to some extent but there is a hole in your argument. Just because we have not found a boat larger than the ones you've posted does not mean they didn't exist.
LOL. If you capture or hire a bunch of sailors and shipbuilders it wouldn't be that hard. Hey, Native Americans didn't have domesticated horses when Europeans landed in North America. They didn't have firearms, either. Yet, they quickly mastered the two.
Overall, I think the ships are beautiful. The only thing I don't like is that they aren't exactly historical.
They are too big for the Germanics but the Gauls had ships that were huge by ancient standards / towered over even his largest ships.

No , The ships were of the Veneti tribe of Armorica , they have nothing to do with Viking longships of germanics . The germanic longships portrayed ingame are just a total invention as the most they could have were some large canoes more like the war canoes of the Maori than else .Those pseudo viking ships are from the Viking culture inspiration that has nothing todo with ancient germanics . Its like if Romans got the use of Dromons and Galleons because Venetians and Spanish did .
The ships of Veneti were thick , tall and sailed , but were not tought for war , the Romans had difficulties boarding , but after stripping down their sails those ships were left unharmed and easily captured ...Once boarded the crews couln't stand the Romans in hand to hand .
those ships had low bottoms more adapt to navigate lower fundals and face the tides , were exceptioally tall at the front and back , to resist better to the large waves of the ocean , they used also pelts for sails rather than light textiles and were almoust uneffected by rosters .
The battle of Morbihan (Veneticus Sinus) 56 bc ended with a total defeat of the Veneti Ships , despite their advantages
Romans 100 - 150 ships , Celts 220 ships

To make the game any fun they needed to give barbarians some ships that can compete with Romans and Greeks and I think they look great.

I was hoping for something better than just viking long-ships (maybe some cog-like ships for the celtic factions), but I get why they did it, and they look quite beautiful with those swan head bows, so I guess you can say I like them.
Besides, the ones they have shown might very well not be all the ship types available to barbarians.
I think you'll regret making this thread. History fanboys will destroy everything.
But I think it looks epic.

I think it's pretty awesome and having distinct barbarian, greek/roman and eastern navies will really enrich naval battles and a level of visceral depth to the sea combat.
Could you imagine sailing your Suebi longships into warm mediterranean waters with the sun beating down on your axe-wielding warriors. Maybe since it's so hot and they're not used to it they will have to cast of their robes and reveal their muscular nordic physiques. Triceps and deltoids glistening in the hot north african sun as they sail past the pillar of hercules. Sweat dripping through the grooves of their perfectly formed abs as they survey the horizon for Phoenician colonies and warships. These are battle hardened men and it's going be a great day, full of blood, loot and soldierly companionship.
I'm pretty excited for these sea battles. I can't wait for my warriors to ram and penetrate the enemy ships and board them over and over again.

Can we role play a possible RTW scenario? I am a handsome young Phoenician Pentekonter ship captain called Abibaal. I am of slight yet agile build with oiled bronze skin which glistens like a polished hoplon in the Mediterranean sunlight. My locks of gently curling black hair christen my shoulders and gracefully compliment my glowing complexion. As a Germanic warrior, with sweat drenched guns, would you ram my ship hard from behind? The prow of your hefty vessel deeply penetrating mine.
I'm sure that my Germanic warriors will be quite curious about the exotic and tempting Phoenicians sailors they are about to face in battle. Surely when my warriors board your ship they will use caution in entering this alien vessel as they are unused to the contours and grooves of such Phoenician design. In any case it will be an intense and magnificent battle, full of sweat, screams and clash of weaponry. But no doubt the suebi will overpower you.
