There is quite short navy part.

I dont know what "you can expect" means, but i think they dropped it. Mayby only transprot ships will be 2 per unit. In the video i think all ships act as a single unit.

And I noticed all the naval units in the demo video were of one ship, not one pair in sight. It seems they have been forced to discard it, it'll get in the way of manoeuvring. I always thought it was unworkable. Maybe on huge unit size you get two ships

The Olaf Tryggvason ship was a cerimonial ship and was from 1300 years later ! and a totally different culture than the ancient germans ... then why not give the Romans the Dromons of the Venetians or Byzantines? Greek fire perhaps?

Oh and for nottalking of the bodybuilding bodies of the germans compared to the tiny and fragile ones made for the romans .... Bias all the way ?

ssssssshhhhhhhh, dont give them more stupid ideas , anyway normal longships were 20m long.

Somebody mentioned that they made ships so big so that they could get all 120 men on board so that animations work properly, to that i replay that they could easily make more smaller ships in one unit to compensate this. Personally i would prefer more smaller historically accurate ships per unit lets say 4 smaller ships in one unit and that this unit would somewhat balance out one big Quinquereme.
Not everybody should be good in everything and if barbarians couldnt build proper ships they could adapt shipbuilding when they would capture settlements from these nations that could build such ships. That would make playing as barbarian nation a great challenge and fun since u could adapt all these technologies. But anywas i think its too late for these ideas so .....

Wow, looks pretty cool. This will probably be the first Total War game where I don't autoresolve all the sea battles. I loved seeing those suebi clubmen animations against the roman hastati.

Naval combat for the first time in Total War looks fun to play. Empire-Shogun 2 was only playable if you were a masochistic, which I am, so I would play it without particularly liking it. If I did not play the naval battle then the auto-resolve would punish me for my arrogance.

So I love the look of naval combat. Also, to those of you who are complaining about historic..whatever, please realize that not everyone enjoys integrating their hobbies and interest together. I am a engineer by profession who plays a variety of video games, loves reading history, and occasionally continues to learn the German language. I DO NOT want Rome 2 Total War to be a game that is a historic simulation where I have to design my own ships/buildings/weapons using engineering principles while having to read the game in the German language.
If you want a historic themed video game then let it be that. STOP complaining about how it does not match up to your history books. Healthy and moderate interest overlapping is what Rome 2 should adhere to.

With amphibious battles and all I guess we'll have some serious Viking action with the barbarian factions. Might actually play Suebi after my Macedon campaign.

Eh, not a fan of ramming resulting in total and immediate evisceration of the targeted ship. But the naval combat overall looks fun.

No battle either naval or land is exciting to me if there are no stakes involved. This was the problem with previous TW games where spamming armies was common. If I play a naval battle the loss of which would result in, say, the grain supply being cut off or a port being besieged then there's a real motivation to win. Everything else is just cosmetic. That said naval battles have yet to reach their full potential and these look like the most interesting to date (which isn't really saying that much).

Personally I didn't get too enthused watching this video, but I have no complaints at all, I'm just a land-lubber and was expecting a land battle with Macedonian phalanxes. However, that's not to say I'm whining and I'm being ungrateful, it's quite the opposite. I think its great that CA took on board something that the forums wanted to see: 'barbarian' ships.

I liked the pace of the vessels, they didn't feel too slow, neither were they too fast either (I understand they were much slower in reality, but Rome 2 isn't reality, which some people fail to recognise ) . Watching marines fight it out on board ships will certainly be a site to see, its a lot more detailed than it was in Shogun 2! Its just those little details that make such a difference, for example the oarsmen grunting as they row. Great stuff!

I've never really been into naval warfare, but hopefully once I play Rome 2, an interest may develop. That's one of the great things about total war I think; it may not be 100% accurate (and it doesn't pretend to be either) but it does a damned good job of presenting aspects of history that you may not have paid much attention to before. For example, I was never really interested in Napoleonic warfare, but N:TW prompted an interest

Awesome Video... But Ramming Looks Really BAD - Although both times the ships were Rammed in different areas, the EXACT animation took place - watch the mass of the ship being destroyed on both occurrences...

Looks amazing to me! Really looking forward to naval battles this time around, except for this little blip:

It did seem a bit offputting to me that a ship rammed head-on broke in half just like if it had been rammed perpendicularly.. A minor thing though

I am disappointed. Oars cannot be destroyed, large ships are some silly juggernauts of doom that literally crush smaller vessels instead of acting as floating fortresses, not to mention ship speed looks way too fast. There does not seem to be any scorpios on the decks either, unlike in the concept art. I also do not like the huge and over-the-top figureheads many flagships seem to have. They look like they belong into fiction.

It is weird how cartoony and ahistorical naval battles appear to be in this game, whereas campaign game-play and land battles look really great and realistic.
