Sorry if this question is already answered but can an army hide along the edges of the impassable forests? [EDIT: aha, I've just noticed lighter patches in the middle of the forests aswell, so presumably the edges are verboten too?]

For a moment, when I read the title of the thread, I was preparing to start knocking my head against the nearest wallI thought the post was going to be a complaint about the colour of the leaves
However, this is actually a good question! The tree lines would be perfect for ambushing any armies on the road, so it would be great if we could hide armies there. I don't think this has been answered, actually.
Can we hide in any woodland now? Or do you just put your army in ambush stance anywhere?
Couldn't help thinking when I read the thread title

I would like many forests but am greatly disappointed by the lack of willow and birch trees in rome 2. All 6 of my pre-orders cancelled! With ash die back disease rampant in Europe bringing out a likeness to them would brighten their mood, so how dare CA not implement this.
Good question if ambush set in woods do you start hidden in the woods or what?
Drink Whiskey and you'll feel better.
I seriously doubt it. those forests aren't there for hiding in. they're there to make the whole campaign map into a channel, so you can't go around settlements. It bloody sucks, and really serves to make a boring campaign in Shogun 2.
So no, those forests are all impassable. Unless you see very lightly tree'd forests, you won't be able to go through them

I suppose though, it does beg the question. In reality, how does one effectively move a large army and its baggage train through thick forestry?? I do not think it is realistically feasible unless the forest is cleared.
I tell you what would be a nice feature actually, the ability for certain armies to clear forests e.g. the Romans
