    Default Anti-virus protection

    Greetings all,

A while ago my free anti-virus protection, which came with my computer, ran out. I would have to buy the rest of the programm(McAfee it was) to keep my protection up.

Which I don't want to. So basically I'm asking all you computer technicians, what (free) anti-virus protection do you use? What do you recommend?

I also have Ad-Aware against spy-ware, but I don't know how effective that is. After all, it doesn't tell you what kind of spy-ware it DIDN'T delete.

    So, what's your advice?

Yes please resticky that topic Spiff!

And with regards to the original question, my favourite Windows Anti-virus program is Anti-Vir. It's free, it's good, and it has frequent updates, here's the link: http://www.free-av.com/

On Linux I prefer ClamTK antivirus (which you can get off Automatix). But that probably doesn't apply to you

You dont definitely have to have 8, you could further divide the current consolidated list, for example one pinned thread containing both fatsheep's and my own list of useful links, one thread containing the guides, etc

There, done. I divided all the guides into 3 stickies, one general, one links/applications, and one computer maintenance.

You can also edit the title of the thread to let people know what kind of guides we have in there.

I recommend Avast! Home Edition. Although AVG and Anti-Vir are supposed to be good, too.

I suggest firefox and not running stuff that you downloaded without knowing what its for. That is much faster then the majority of those things outthere.
