Could anyone show me how to make my PC display Chinese characters in game ? I searched the web all over again and tried anything from changing the locale system to installing display language but the result is the same - just these "[] [][][][][]" or "??????"

You need to install them in your fonts folder
For example:
X:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War

However, there will be a new translation patch soon, about 80-90% is now translated, stay tuned !

Hi there

Yes HanZhiShang is still being developed and improved by the day on 1mod (Sm version, Kai ect...)

I'm also trying my best to improve the experience in English based on the 1.03 version, however, I'm getting busy these days and can't spend as much time as I used to

I implemented a few more event/videos and corrected some AI scripts so as to live the Three Kingdoms a RPG/RTS style

The hardest part was to make the Guandu experience playable with epic battles, although it is done, I will need to test manually everything before uploading a bug-free version

Hopefully I'll be able to upload it by the end of this month,

Meanwhile, any comment welcome and thanks again to the modding community !

However, it appears that the SM version is now the latest official release, I have been asking for authorization, and I will try to transfer the translation to this new official update asap, so English speakers will be able to enjoy also
