Default Nexus 7 and external hard drive issue...

OK so this may be a bit difficult to explain properly, but I will do my best...

I have a Google Nexus 7 (love it), but because the hard drive is rather small I use external hard drives with it for my music and pictures and stuff. I rooted it and use Stickmount and an OTG cable and such to connect the hard drives. I have 2 external drives that have worked great with it thus far, but they are rather old and small, so I bought a new one, a Seagate Expainsion 3tb USB 3.0 external drive. The Nexus/Stickmount recognizes the drive fine, I can open it and such, but when I do open it it says "directory is empty". My PC sees the files just fine, but for whatever reason the Nexus 7 doesn't. I have no idea what the problem is. Tried Googling it, but it's a rather difficult problem to explain in a simple question. I have no idea if the problem is the Nexus or Stickmount or what. My thinking is that it's something with the hard drive itself because the Nexus and Stickmount work fine with the other hard drives, however, as I said the drive works fine on my PC.

So, if any of you have any ideas/suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I just googled "Nexus 7 not recognizing external hard drive'' and after a bit of looking I found this

Just be aware, if you have an external "hard drive" with an actual spinning disc, it may not run directly off of the power that the N7 can provide. Some will, some require an external power source. Flash based drive (USB stick or thumb drives) should work.

Just out of curiosity, how do you use the nexus 7? Are you carrying a music library in flac that you need so much space?
