Rome II - XP, Win7 or Win8?

Just wondering what OS would be best for running Rome Total War II when it comes out next month.

Currently I am running Rome TW 1 on Win XP, 4 GB of RAM (although XP only uses 3 GB), Core2Duo 8400 at 3.0 ghz, Radeon 7770 graphic card. It runs butter smooth at 1920 x 1080 resolution But of course Rome 1 is an old game.

XP is too old to run current-generation games reliably. I recommend an upgrade of your OS to truly take advantage of those decent specs.

If you can run Shogun 2, you should be able to run Rome 2. Also, XP is supported: http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/Rome_II_Recommended_Specs

You will be stuck with the DirectX 9 version of Rome2's graphics unless you upgrade your operating system though.

Probably OP forgot to mention it. Vista should work well... similar architecture to Windows 7.

7 or 8, I have 8 and it's great once you get past the initial WTF.

W8 if you got 2 monitors, its the only version of Windows supporting multi monitor setup properly. Largely W7 and W8 are the same. Dont even mention XP, I mean comon how do you expect to play such a resource demanding as Rome 2 with a PC that can only run on Windows XP?

Isn't multi-monitors rather confusing to play games on?

Pretty much the only place where I could imagine having two monitors would be at work or if I need to google/hold up a wiki next to the game.

That's what most people do when they have multi-monitor, ability to browse the web whilst the game loads e.t.c. Not many games allow you to physically play the game through two​ screens.

Thats the point. Most games act weird on pre-W8 esp. in full screen mode (like the 2nd monitor goes blank, crashing while alt tabbing to 2nd screen etc.). W8 gives you a 2nd taskbar and eliminates most issues (so far I see none), thats why I really recommend it for anyone with 2 monitors. Many people find the removal of start menu an annoyance though, which is a bit unfair IMO

Yeah, in the end using Win 8 is all about learning the short-cuts, as good old alQamar thought me, then it's really smooth, even better than 7.

I use Windows Vista and i have played every total war game and i have always maxed out the settings on Ultra.

I expect some issues with Rome 2 though?

There shouldn't be any problems with Vista, but I recommend upgrading to 7/8 because Vista and XP is just too old now.
