Hey all. Bot RTW and RTRPE crash now :( Please Help!

Ok so I went to play RTRPE tonight and noticed I had no shortcut. I asked my wife and apparently the system restored or something at 1:30pm today.

So I click undo and the computer restarts. There are my links for RTRPE. But now when I open them, the games crash to desktop after loading the first screen (the one with all the credits).

Any ideas? I still see my save game so hopefully that'll make it. *sigh*

Do you have -show err. Right click on your shortcut and go to properties. Then put -show err like this "BLAHBLAH" -show err. Tell us the problem now when it CTDs.

Most probably you have had one or more files deleted or corrupted. I got that sort of problem once but it was just two corrupted files, the ones I was working when the system restored. I would suggest trying to reinstall RTRPE. As the missing or corrupted files will be added/replaced, that should fix the problem.

Yep, try adding the -show_err command to the shortcut's target line (make sure you add a space after the end quotes and then add the -show_err). Most startup crashes report some sort of error, so that should help narrow down the problem.

Chances are you'll have to reinstall RTRPE. If you haven't modded too much, your savegames should still work.

sometimes the show_err doesnt help like me its simple - reinstall RTRPE but only if the show_err doesnt show a error but if it showed an error try to fix it

Yeah I figured I was screwed so I deleted everything.

What I did this time was made a RTW 1.5 folder (the regular Actiision folder), then I made a copy of that folder and named it Activision2. In that folder is my RTRPE. I also saved the patches and install files on my computer. So if this happens again Idon't ahve to DL it.

Anyway, like I said it's worth it because as much as I like RTW, RTRPE is so much better. I prefer HUGE game worlds where my choices of expansion can be carefully planned.
