Games for an Acer Aspire-5530

What games can I run smoothly on my Acer Aspire-5530 ?
I'd be happy if I can run a game at low settings.
I don't care if a game is old or new, only if it can run on my laptop.
I'd prefer strategy and RPG games, other recommendations are welcome too.

I played a lot of games of 2006 and earlier on config similar to that. RTW and M2TW should work, I would also go for empire at war and probably even SoaSE should work on reduced settings, well its not an intensive game unless you use mods like Sins of a Solar Empire (have you imagined more than 30 capitals and a Titan, along with 300+ frigate fleets on your best starwars flavour? yep thats the one)

I've tried SoaSE on my laptop, it run quite well. I've also played Civ 5, low settings. Was a bit laggy but that wasn't a big problem for a TBS. Will M2TW run well on my laptop? Any other recommendations?

you can say just Yo, but that works

m2tw should work, dont expect high nothing, the cpu and the gpu aint good combos

I mainly play strategy games, im playing COH right now and it should work on reduced settings, like low to medium, but any old game should work. you can try neverwinter nights 2 and 1, along with the baldurs gate HD, AOE 2 HD, supreme commander 2 and 1, defense grid, Sanctum should too, kotor 1 and 2, monkey island series, battlefield vietnam and 1944

aside that go and watch arakawa under the bridge

I was going to try AOE 2 HD. I own both Supreme commander games. Aint they quite demanding for my laptop? I've played Defence Grid: Awakening, very nice game.

I remember that I've tried Mount and Blade on my laptop but it starts lagging when the laptop's temperature rises. Overheating is a problem with some games.
An other thing, in the dxdiag it says that there is a HD 3400 but actually my laptop has 2 GPUs. An HD 3400 series and a HD 3200 series. It says it on the AMD panel and I have Crossfire enabled. Any tips on that?

well you have a dgpu, I dont think xfire should work, given that assymetric xfire was implemented latter and only the new igpu + dgpu from amd support that

supreme commander is a tough game to run, but it should work on reduced settings

what do you mean by overheating, does your notebook shutdown suddenly? anyway I would just grab some past and dismantle the fans and clean it, its an old notebook, bet on dust being there

I wish it was that easy to dismantle this laptop. I've tried and I came close into ruinning it.
No, it doesn't shut down suddenly. When I am running some games like M&B or NFS Carbon (

) the performance drops after a while. I've noticed that that happens when the temperature of the laptop rises (You can cook eggs above the place where the GPU is). Of course I could be wrong.

install hwmonitor and check what temps you are getting, and if the performance drops it sure looks like overheating

I would try to look for disassembly manual, my old notebooks are all failry easy to disassemble and put back the more complicated to get to the heatsink is the mbp, since I need to flip the board

that didn't show any temps whatsoever, but there is no down clocking, its reporting its nominal speed of 2ghz

While Playing Rome TW. I choosed to play a quick battle to see how it runs. Runs very well on high settings. It was a 3-army battle, me as Macedon against Gaul and Rome. It's the first time I see a 3-army quick battle.
I've always wondered: why do the Macedonians have a Lamda as their symbol in the game?

The only weird thing is that the intro video and the background of the main menu have only their lower half visible. The intro file seems ok.

Any good mods for RTW? (Desides RS II).

europa barbarorum, SPQR, and revenge of the pijamas: the pillow fight

there is another mod that focus on different conflicts, I think the last one was iberian conflict or something, can't remember the name though, its on the 7th edition already this mod

aside that go and play SoaSE rebellion with sins of a solar empire mod, WIPE THEM OUT ALL OF THEM!
