    Default Republican pre-Marian legions?

    Hi guys.

Curious to know a bit more about Rome's legions pre-marius. I know only the 'landed' class could serve, but curious if they had any standing armies or if men were just called up as needed? What about officers? Where they just higher class men who also just went to war when needed? Were there any standing soldiers or just in times of war? Was there a certain term of service each 'landed' men would be required to serve?

    Thanks for any info!
