Default Rome TW with one of the new intel Core 2 Duo processors

Hi, i would just like to know if anyone here has tried running Rome TW with an intel core 2 duo processor as although i am looking to get a new pc for M2TW i would still like to play Rome on max settings etc, as with my current pc i have been unable to experience Rome at its best (basically my pc is rubbish lol).

I'm playing with an AMD dual core and the game lags, I installed an optimizer but I still need to disable one of the CPU cores when playing the game. I expect Intel to be the same as well.

I don't see a reason why MTW2 would not be dual core considering how many things it's doing (Specfically the battles to speak where each unit acts individually) that and Supreme commander which is also a new game coming out after christmas is also dual core supported.

Did you make sure to update your dual core drivers first? I had the same problem, and updating the drivers then the optimizer fixed it.

First try updating the drivers and then installing AMD's optimizer from here. If that still doesn't work, then do the following(in WinXP):

Open 'Task Manager' (right click in the taskbar)
    Go to 'Processes' tab
Right click on the RTW process - the name has slipped my memory and I'm at work :-(
    Choose 'Set Affinity...'
    Uncheck 'CPU 0'
    Click on 'OK'
    Congrats, its done.

As to the origional question, I would assume that if I got my AMD dual core to run well(7000+, all high settings, no lag) then an Intel would work the same way. But if worse comes to worse you can always disable one of the CPUs.

What kind of RAM and video card are you running. I can get mine at max settings with 7000 men before the lag starts to occur?

Wow I cannot believe I missed the updated drivers I will uninstall the optimizer, then update the drivers and reinstall the optimizer. I was getting changing the affinity when I want to play.

Dual core is much more difficult to program for. Every programmer has grown up learning how to program on a single processor, now the industry much quickly retrain itself to work on multiple cores. It will be a while until the ball is rolling, but my feeling is that once we learn how to effectively use 4 cores, 32 isn't far behind. I'm not sure if M2TW is dual core (though its probably released somewhere). Just because the technology is there, doesn't mean it will be implemented in the commercial arena anytime soon. Engineers and researchers already have GPU setups 20 times as fast as the fastest desktop card, but video games, and indeed all commercial graphics, have no need to push ahead of technology (because that means less people can play their games). I'm not talking about technology like a new GFX card, I'm talking paradigm-changing technology such as single-core to dual to multi-core, and a physics processing unit, DX10, etc.

I have an Intel E6300 Conroe Core Duo and have had no problems running RTw at all.

Cheers for the replies guys. Lusted you say that you have the e6300 processor, this is the processor i am thinking about getting, when you say you can run it with no problems is that with everything on max (unit sizes in particular)? Also how much memory do you have and what graphics card.

I have an Intel E6400 Core 2 Duo and I have been playing RTW, BI and associated mods with everything maxed out and HUGE unit sizes in SPQR which is very demanding... I have not had any lags and I'm even using medium/high AA... I have 2Gb dual memory and XFX 7900 gt 256Mb graphics card... It's a shocking huge difference from my aged 3 year old computer ;-)
