Its nothing spectacular, pretty much what I expected. Still, not utterly terrible either.
Jack Lusted better answer some damn good and important questions tomorrow, instead of "Are Macedonian tunics purple"?

Just read through the first chapter. I liked it, it's mostly about the Battle of Pydna.
Look, it's a nice book and all, but I'm not really into reading.
It reduces swag. Can't have that.![]()
After reading it: LOL! 9 Pages of text in total, only 2 pages actually describes fighting in the battle, the rest is about deployment and marching. Exactly what we have seen in the game.

It's ok, yeah. Hardly Nabokov or Austen, as to be expected, but it's enjoyable.
Really puzzles me how the author is going to make out like Rome were the good guys in the Third Punic War though. Maybe they'll have Cato as the bad guy who manipulates the good Roman citizens and we'll have a big tragic ending.
People hyperhype - 1 month of waiting - 1 book about a videogame?

Thank the gods that Polybios did nothing of the sort of crazy ride described in the prologue, or we would've had to rely on Livius(who himself used Polybius extensively) and Diodorus to find out about Rome.
Also, plagiarise Plutarch much?
I managed to read 2 pages before I realized that the book had zero immersion and was just a boring mumbling of historically stereotyped platitudes.
great i need a new book for my flight tomorrow! i think I have read some of his other books...
Thanks Trish, All articles on Rome are welcome.
