    Default Elephants??

Whose idea was this? Because I think you got the wrong in-game model and mesh, right? You were thinking maybe something like this? Or maybe this?

All sarcassm aside: moving past my last problem, with the siege equiptment slowing down the game to point that it's unplayable, in my very next battle I encountered elephants. 72 of them, in fact. I went crazy - every unit that could fire a javelin did and at the elephants. And twenty units all firing at once only managed to kill 12 of them. The remaining 60!! elephants made short work of entire Roman army!

So I ran a search on the forum and the most popular way of dealing with the issue that I could find was: "auto-resolve the battle." But I like fighting battles! Now I have to auto-resolve for this and auto-resolve for that ...

Is everyone just auto-resolving battles right and left?

Oh well... The elephants again... Yes, they are overpowered in the 2.5 version. The devs overlooked their stats. But that will be fixed in the coming 2.6 version. You don't need to auto-resolve. Best trick I have read here was that you should use siege units like ballistas or scorpions and let them running amok because of your shots. Or you lower their armor. Both works. But I have to say... I never fought against the Cataphract Elephants...

Oh well... that's good to hear.

Sorry to raise what sounds like a resolved issue but, damn, it is frustrating if you've not encountered them before.

Any suggestions on what to lower the stats to?

I know... I never went much into Asia and ecountered the Seleucids... They have 48 armor. I think some lowered them to 28 or around that. You can test that for yourself to find the stats that fit for you.

You can tinker with their stats in the export_descr_unit file in data, I believe. Do the same in whatever campaign folder you are playing in. Easy peasy.

It's frustrating, I know. In truth elephants were as much a liability as they were an asset. I find that I can panic them with flaming arrows without too much trouble. I lowered their armor ratings to 24 or something like that.

Yeah I fought a single battle against cataphract elephants. The rest were all auto resolved. It was a bridge battle, selucids attack with a full stack and two units of cataphract elephants. Four units of archers using flaming arrows, three units of horse archers, and every javelin in my army managed to kill one solitary elephant in the whole battle. The entirety of the Selucid army had routed, their general was dead, and the elephants waltzed in and dismantled my army like the sprites they were.

Gotta auto-resolve only solution. You can play a Seleucid campaign with 2 cataphract elephants and just stomp everyone. Its rather amusing.....

Thanks for that. I don't usually include archers in my Roman armies, so flaming arrows was no option. I lowered them by 10 but that wasn't really enough. Wow, any idea why someone thought they should be so powerful??

Funny, there was a bit of that in my experience. I was fighting away, defeating Carthage like I normally would, and in the back, behind a line of spearmen, were the elephants shooting at me. So I brought up my velites - I'd saved them for elephant hunting - and began trying to take them out. The elephants just ambled forward - walking slowly, taking their time - and erradicted those velites. Then they went on a killing rage that would make Charles Manson look like the Easter Bunny.

I might actually try that ...

Apart from artillery, editing the EDU is for now the only viable option. EDU for 1-turn is in the main data folder i think, but open the respective campaign/faction folder and check for EDU. If it's there, then that's the one to edit.If you make a search for elephants threads on this forum you will find more detailed instructions.

So for people who are denied Siege like Parthia I assume we auto resolve against the Elephants?
