    Default Group AI

I have to admit I haven't played any TW games after M2:TW, but I have a good excuse; an old computer.

So I don't know if group AI is present in Shogun 2. Be it present there or not, I think a game like R2:TW will need such a feature more than ever before. Having 20 units and probably additional ships to lead at the same time, it would require a lot of pausing the game to be efficient.

But battles have a vastly more "real" feeling to them if there is no pausing used. In R:TW I started using the group AI option that the game has and used it even more later in M2:TW. This feature really made the battles fluid and movie-like for me. Even got a moment or two to simply watch the happening, all without the pause being used. In case the later games do not include this feature or if you simply never used it - it is an option to turn the whole group of units (naturally, it demands the units to be grouped in the first place) to AI leadership. It is a superb feature that I would love to see included in R2, too.

So far I can't recognize the feature in the UI seen from the available videos so my questions go to S2 players mostly. Is this feature present there and can it be recognized in the R2 UI?

I don't know in which video I saw Al using the group feature in battle, but I'm sure it's going to be present in R2TW. I'm guessing it was in one of the prologue videos.

EDIT: I don't know whether or not you will be able to place them under AI command.

I always group my units in every TW game. I always let my computer take control of my reinforcements to be honest. It just annoys me when they rush the general into battle although most mods done a good job of changing that.

It is not that I trust it - this is also why some units are never placed under AI command. Usually that is the general and cavalry as flanking is best done by hand. The point of letting other units to be lead by AI is that you have free hands to lead the rest by hand without pausing the game and still not fall into chaos.

True, true. I am very careful not to let any generals stay in the reinforcements stack, although that is not always possible...

BTW, at least in RTW and M2TW you can still command the individual units, even if they are grouped and put under AI control. The main difference is that they will continue the fight, try to flank etc. etc. even if you gave them no order. Usually I put all the infantry under AI after the battle is joined. So that I don't need to look at each unit all the time if it can and should help the other - they do it anyway.

I didn't even know that it was a feature. Commanding 40 units in Shogun 2 was a lot of fun. I was really disappointed at no 40 unit stacks in rome 2. If i wanted to watch a battle like a movie i would just save the replay.

according to this video you can still give the computer control of part of your army: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...1#post13085777 At 3:30 you can read the info and he says something about letting the computer control a group.

Excellent find, Ohdows! That is an exceptional piece of memory and attention to detail combination that I obviously lack.

Judging from the description, the feature has not only stayed in place, it has also been expanded! I don't remember being able to task a group with defending a position. This is great news for me, thank you for pointing it out.

I never heard of this feature before today. Doubt I'll use it. I don't pause either, just more fun to be under pressure.

He he he, nearing 40, I'm too old for the clickfest. But definitely, it is great we all have a choice.
