    Default Guilty Roman?

Does anyone else ever feel a little like you are tilting the results, exploiting if you will, if you prefer to play as the cool warriors in the red armor? You know, the ones who won their RL grand campaign when it counted. It's akin to playing as the Allies in a WWII game.

A little guilt is never a bad thing though, and treating yourself with a fantasy fulfilled is most certainly not, so Rome it is.

Never feel guilty about destroying your enemies! Also, I always felt like I was making my ancestors proud, part of why I could never play as the Gauls or Britons... ewww stinking Britons.
If you rep me, leave your name. I'll look more kindly on your future transgressions.

What is best in life? To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

No, replicating history is fun because I feel like I'm walking in the footsteps of people greater than myself (which makes me feel a little great myself).

Play as Rome and be proud. Play as any faction and be proud, won or lost all great civilizations in an amazing time in history.

    Only on this forum
Normally I'd play as Rome and be blissfully happy (not least because they work the hardest on giving the Romans depth)
But here, all the purists act as though you have to play as a Greek faction or else you're betraying academia, and on legendary difficulty

I mean them no disrespect, but they intimidate me slightly

Why would I feel guilty? I'm not actually killing people and conquering them.

I do usually pick the historical losers, but that's just cuz it's usually more of a challenge.

I see what you mean, OP. One of the reasons I play as the Romans is because I like to do what they did but also achieve what they didn't get to as well.
Haha yeah, it does feel like you're playing on the winning side just like when you play any WW2 games these days.

However, there's just something beautiful about the Romans. Who they were. What they were like. What they achieved. Don't feel guilty about playing as the Romans. Be proud
I'm in no way of Roman ancestry or even Italian, but I feel guilty playing against the Romans as any other faction haha.

I'm Italian and most certainly possessing some Roman blood, and I feel guilty playing as anyone but them for my first faction. Just as I'll have regrets about fighting them when I play the Arverni. But at the same time Pontus provides such a great opportunity for revisionism and an interesting location and roster, almost enough to trump Rome for the first campaign. In Rome I I played as the Scipii (Cornelia) first. It's just a question of whether I'll be playing Rome as a faction FIRST, rather than not at all. That said, I'm going to play the Junia without a doubt as the political/family group, and maintain the Republic.

Guilty? why? i dont think it will be that easy playing the romans as any other faction. Remember that campaing walktrough? The Etruscan league wiped out Rome... The romans were no longer.

At this point, as long as you destroy the Parthians and Egyptians and Spartans as Rome it is totally fine.

Show those respective fanboys that whatever buffs they get matter little to the might of Rome!

Since this thread has nothing to do with ancient dictators and an in depth discussion on war crimes I removed the majority of the posts, please stay on topic or more action will be taken by moderation.

Sorry Dutch but the first post of the OP is not really clear and it was obvious in which direction the thread would go. I see no other way to discuss here further.

The people who should feel guilty are those who only play as Sparta.

On topic, I feel no guilt when playing as the Romans, or indeed as any other faction. Though it saddens me a tiny bit when I have to fight against a people I like, like Gauls as the Romans, the Romans as Macedon, or Macedon as Parthia, and so on. I'm always able to get over it after the fighting has continued for a while, though.
