    Default Gold Mines

Do you guys think they will be worth while to pursue with only a handful of them on the map? In Fots they really didn’t make that much of a difference and some of the high end industrial buildings seemed like they produced just as much wealth.

During this period I’m hoping they will be worth while and owning one will kind of make you like the Lannisters and shite gold!

Surprised to see there's no silver resource in Iberia, given how wealthy some Carthaginians, then Romans, got from exploiting the mines there...

I would believe so. Hopefully the AI is programmed to think the same way and if its in heavily contested area you will have to fight tooth and nail to keep digging that precious ore out of the ground.

There doesn't really seem to be any gold/silver mines near Greece either, I thought Macedonia was known for its silver deposits.

Yeah they were a bit weak in Shogun 2, hopefully the top tier gold mine rakes in the gold

I disagree. Gold mines were notorious for not making money for the state. Heavy sources of corruption you see. Practically begging to be siphoned into private hands and pretty much impossible to grab hold of all the natural resources unless you have a metsuke to straighten things up, which gets you big money in game if he's good with the overseeing towns ability.

Philip II of Macedon built a pretty nice army with the silver from his mine.

If you put the money into infrastructure and research you should reap the benefits. Otherwise it should not give any significant advantage.

Hate to say it, but doesn't always turn out that way. Gold mines particularly were notorious for not only the above comment of corruption but also flooding from hot springs and lack of oxygen in Japan. Both of these factors don't really care how much money you put into expanding the mine.

If you played as the Hojo you'd have noticed that the province of Izu is home to a gold mine. This represents the Toi gold mine which today holds the worlds largest gold bar. A small fact for you.

Yeah the Romans really were wasting time and resources on those Hydraulic mining methods when a few guys with picks could easily have handled it. I assumed we are talking about the game.

it, the floor's open. Of course, I'm only using Japanese mining as an example. We can get into the failures of Roman techniques if you're willing. Then again I'd advise you reread the flow of conversation in the thread beginning with Ceasar the Lion.

Athens was able to afford a fleet of 300 triremes from a silver mine.

It's a game. We can't have 1 gold mine supporting 100's of fleets, it's too unbalanced.
