Default AI not attacking in battles?

    Hey all!

    Brilliant mod.

    Okay, formalities aside. Whew.

Playing as Rome 0-turn I 've come across an odd 'bug' (?) in which my opponents oftentimes simply won't attack during battles. They'll stand in a line, charge forward 100 meters or so, then halt, retreat 50 meters or so, and repeat. Units will run across the line to switch places during this time, like the AI general is constantly stuck in some "organizational" mode, instead of attacking. Now, it's been some time since I last played RTW but I swear this never, ever happened. If anything the enemy always charged mindlessly into my line.

Any ideas? I noticed this happens without fail when facing the Carthaginians; fighting the Arverni, Gallaeci or Dacians, however, it's only about 50% of the time, and they've been known to attack like good little AI's.

Thanks in advance, mates, for the timely and helpful responses!

I've experienced the computer often sending out one unit to chase my archers/skirmishers in front. I proceed to run my archers/skirmishers behind my lines and then just shoot them in the back while they retreat. I know there is definitely something wrong with the unit ai. I don't know if you have a choice i usually just end up sallying out, and taking the fight to them...... I've heard the ai is better on alex, but thats just speculation.

So perhaps it's better? Would you attack you given a better choice? I like it very much that the AI will also enter battle, choose to sacrifice a few units and then retreat.

As to the 'milling around', sadly this does happen and can tire the AI out - but perhaps they're simply trying to draw you out and disrupt your formation(s).......

This doesn't happen to me... I see something like this only in sieges battles in towns without walls. There are mostly 2 units who try to charge and then they walk back to their place... Stupid, but I'll get them all over time...
But always... Mostly on the campaign map the AI does'nt attack me. I'll always have to attack him and it's clear how it's going on on the battlefield then... The AI fears me to much... My Spartan heroes...

ive had that happend also, one time on a bridge battle, they attacked me but they just lined up at the bridge and stands there till timer runned out.i did not attacked because it was a 4/1 ratio that i never had have won.
on the campaign map its like darth bane said, most of the time they avoid me and try to take undefended citys.
