    Default 'Retro' gaming and DX

Currently, I am bored with my current games. And havent got a good enough PC (yet) to play newer ones (post 05).
So I decided to dig out some of the jewels that I bought or was given in like 1999, but was too stupid to understand how to play, thus never getting past level 2. So I installed hidden and dangerous and a few others and they needed DX 6, so didnt install thinking that DX 9.0c would be able to handle them fine and thinking that DX6 would overwrite my current version. Would it? Is there anyway to have them co-exist or something? How do you play old games on a new system?

Personally, compatability mode does nothing to improve compatibility of old programs. DX versions are backwards compatible, so that shouldn't be the problem.

if its a really old game you could try dosbox, also search on the net for recent updates and patches, as your version may just not be up to date.
