Hello RTR Fans! I'm a Rome-mod newb and need lots of help!

Ok ...

I spend most of my time playing MMORPGs but really enjoy Rome: Total War. As much as I liked the regular version (I've learned it was "vanilla"). About 5 months agao I even downloaded Rome: Total Realism and was blown away! It was very fun.

Well RL and my mmorpg play time pushed Rome to the back seat. But after purchasing the HBO Series: Rome on DVD, I got full blown back into Rome Total War.

To my horror, both RTW and RTR crashed after the main screen loaded. I spent a few days in the middle of August uninstalling and reinstalling the game. I would get RTW to work but not RTR, then I would try and DL the 1.3 and 1.5 patches (I guess I played 1.0 my entire time before) and RTR would crash again.

So I uninstalled again, deleted all traces of Activision and Rome from the computer and installed again. Then I made 3 copies of the RTW folder so that I could mess around with RTR.

Well, now I can't get anything but RTW 1.5 to work, I can't find anything for RTR that works and I've spent almost two weeks reading over forums and posts ...

I hear 1.7 is coming out soon ... I hear RTR.com is a scam that.org is the site ... that is down. I go to RTR.net and they talk about 1.6 Gold for use with RTW 1.2???

I then stumbled upon this site a few days ago (Sunday) and read the stickies ... seems this RTRPE is what I want! But the link doesn't work ...

Please, I really want to play RTR. As much as I love the Julii on RTW, I loved the huge size of the map on RTR and the way gradual citizenship was handled ... among all the other aspecs of the mod. It was a great job for all those involved!

Then I see here other cool add ons like Imperator II (It says 4 turn per year .. does that mean 1 round is 3 months instead of 6).

Also, as much as the stickies are nice ... is there any palce that has real in depth descriptions of the mod add ons? Like I see some formation mods but I'm curious what they look like as well as many other questions ...

I'm not lazy, I try and use the search features on forums and will gladly read all info available .. my problem is finding the info.

Any help from you all would be appreciated:

1) Getting RTRPE (I believe this is what I want now that RTW is at 1.5 on my computer?)
2) In depth info about al the mini-mods and their features ... or even people's comments!
3) Is there an offical site for RTR?

Hi welcome to RTR.. all you have to do is follow the instructions step by step on how to install the mod properly, and those instructions are in the very first forum topic at the top: Go to first new post Sticky: RTR PLATINUM v1.6 INSTALL INFO and DOWNLOAD LINKS.

it is very clear and concise, just do it exactly as it states and you should be fine. make sure that you uninstall all copies on your pc first, then go through explorer and make sure that the program files\activision folder is not there, if it is just delete it, then install clean from the instructions.

As far as minimods go, I play Candelarius' Extended Realism mod, but apparently SPQR, Limes' (Ancient Empires) and the Imperator mods are awesome. You can find them all here, just follow installation instructions TO THE LETTER. Print them out if you have to.....

Thanks for the responses. The problem in the full installer does not work. It says the Site is unavailable and has said that for about 3 days now

EDIT - Ok thanks for that info Florin! I'll try tonight!

Also Turkey! ... I visited that site and DLed the gold RTR there .. it crashes

So I figured it's because I have 1.5 on my RTW and that I needed RTRPE.

Right. RTR 6 Gold is made for the engine of RTW v1.2. RTRPE is a convertion of RTR 6 Gold to the engine of RTW v1.5 and you can also play it with BI.exe

Ok cool so I got that part right. Now .. is there a difference in RTRPE and RTRPE with BI? I don't have BI and wanted to avoid extra expense. I'm not in the gutter but my money goes as far as I want it to go atm ... and RTR was such a huge differnece that it was like a new game anyway.

I just have to say you mod people are great. I don't know how you all do it ... I tried to make some little mods to buildings and broke RTW hehe (good thing I have 3 back ups lol)

The difference is much better AI on the battlefield and campaign map, more stability and also you can mod in shield wall formations, water swimming, etc. Personally I love it, but its up to you if the extra money is worth it.

The difference is that with BI the bastard roman AI tries to flank me in a *coherent* manner in most battles, which is rather pleasurable...

Eventhough you wont need BI to actually play RTRPE, you'll certainly need BI to be able to play the official RTR 7.0 which is build base on BI.

p/s: If you wanted to play my Imperator II mod you need to have BI installed unfortunately.

There is a problem in gatting RTRPE at the moment. I think the download links to the v1.6 full install are dead. But you can download the v1.4 full install and then apply the v1.6 patch.

Try the first one from 3ddownloads. Click it and then click start downloading and wait for the "Estimated Waiting Time". If that doesn`t work try the link to filefront(the second one I gave you)

If you don`t manage to download the v1.4 full install then you should wait for the RTRPE v1.7 which will be released this week-end if things go well. But I can`t promise you that.
