    Default Reevaluate

With the quickly approaching release date of Rome II, I feel it may be time for the modders to decide if it's worth continuing. After reading an watching the Rome II media blitz today, it's safe to say that it's going to be a masterpiece!

I'd suggest releasing the mod in whatever condition it is in now to the public. If someone wants to carry on then fine, but I would like to have the current core EB II modders take a few weeks off and then turn their attention to Rome II and throw their time and talents into making that a better game.

I know that there are diehard fans here that will balk at my suggestion, but deep down inside they know I'm right. I'm sure EB II can be a fine mod someday, but it's limited by the aging Kingdoms engine. The new Rome II engine is a massive step forward from Kingdoms. I'd rather see the modders here pour the same time and devotion into Rome II and make it more historically accurate and play better, than continuing working with an outdated game engine that was never designed for this time period.

I write this with sincerity and I'm not trying to troll. After seeing the new vids today I just feel that my suggestion makes the most sense. Thanks!

Are you kidding me? This is a terrible suggestion, with little to no thought put into the amount of time it has taken to develop EBII and even less thought put in to how much time it would take to develop for Rome II, which may not even support modding on this kind of scale.

Of course it's worth continuing. Bore off.

You say you can tell from media announcements designed to advertise a game that it's going to be a "masterpiece"? Do you know how marketing works? Obviously not. Empire looked brilliant but was a bug-addled mess when released. Go on Youtube and see how many kack footballers are made to look like Messi with a bit of editing.

Secondly, the Warscape engine will never be as moddable as M2TW. A project like EB will simply not be possible on it. End of.

You are entitled to your opinion, but actively trying to discourage people from working on a project they've poured their hearts and souls into for 7 years is disgraceful. If you don't want to play EB, fine, but there's no need to spill verbal negativity all over this forum.

The way I see itīs a massive step back for our gameplay.

Limiting the building slots to 16-18 ?! (4 per city and 6 for the capital if Iīm not wrong) will ruin our socio-cultural, migration/imagration and government system.

Let me get this straight Rome 2 will be a great game, thereīs no doubt about that!

But Rome 2 will focus on epic/cinematic battles and not that much on campaign game (see Shogun 2).

I think for the sake of averting waste in time and efforr that has been put into this mod, please EB release whatever it is that you have produced up to now so that the community can finally have and play 7 years worth of time and effort including everything you have all put in. As a total war veteran and fan who has frequented this forum for years now. All I have to say is please do not throw away what your team has worked so hard to produce simply out of impulse because a sequel is being released. I mean most if not all of your members including the forum knew that a sequel to RTW is going to be made and released, yet you continued to produce EB2. You should have all quit then instead of continuing and giving people hope in your mod through posting updates and screenshots portraying how grand and beautiful this mod will be.

I feel sympathetic towards other mods that had the same life and vigor as EB2 when they were first proposed, but have since died due to lack of modders and support. EB has always had both so look at this as your inspiration. Stopping this mod not isn't what we all want because we have all been waiting nearly a decade for its release. The bottom line is this. If EB's team is truly thinking of stopping this, then please let us have at least what your team has produced so far. We know that this mod is currently playable, that is for certain due to your screenshots. Please do not waste yours and other peoples effort and your fans support because its bad for rep. If you lose both, then no one will ever follow again since to follow is to believe. No one will believe in your team again since you'l all be known as quitters and no one believes in quitters. So stay strong and finish this mod because we still believe.

Who said that they were quiting? Where did you come about with this information? I personally don't care, I al playin the Dw Bello Mundi mod like crazy right now. With R2 coming our in a month I could really care less. If it gets released that would be nice but if not then that's cool too. Really doesn't matter anymore. Yes I got this on before it got deleted or locked lol

On a different forum I noticed someone comment on EB as a "labour of love". That's the reason it is the best game ever. Rome2 will never compete.
I look forward to EB2 as an epic new gaming experience. And discouraging the dedicated warriors from continuing with the project is disgraceful. You should be ashamed of yourself.

R2 is not designed to compete. When you don't have a deadline to meet and spend years and years trying to perfect a game, then it better be dam good and have no bugs

Not me. I don't have any high performance machine that could possibly tame R2 unlike you elitists going around flaunting your bling and gun rights and expecting the world to meet your ends exactly as expected. Aristocrats such as yourself always remind me that life is full of disappointments.

You are wrong. I don't want to buy something which:
    1. Will fire up my laptop because of resources and then:
    1.1 I must call fireworkers.
1.2 I must buy new laprop.
    2. Will make me poor man because with all the DLC's it will cost me more than 500 $ I believe.
    3. I will not enjoy in this game enough.
    4. I already have good enough TW games with excellent mods to represent this awesome era.

lol, Rome 2 a masterpiece? I was looking forward to Rome 2 a lot at first until I realized that it's like Rome 1 with Shogun 2 mechanics with some other small gimmicks and all of the cool even though less used features stripped away leaving you a bare bone game with crappy ai (Play online against good players, big difference) tons of artificial choke points on campaign map etc, etc etc. Instead of fleshing out something, they streamline it. Instead of fleshing out the game so playing way over 250 turns is still fun and worth the time they just streamline it with gameplay only designed for max 300 turns. Already simple unit rosters, traits limited, large settlements can be used as chokepoints, really few amounts of settlements, 1tpy, and it goes on and on and on.

I'll just wait for EB 2 to save myself the money and play something worth my time.

Ah, you mentioned the MTW Engine, which reminds me; I have NEVER had it crash on me! It has been the most consistent and playable TW game. However, I cant stop playing EB, seriously, its on every day, even for just one turn. I purchased Shogun 2 and hated it for its lack of charisma and became bored of it within 2 months. Empire, which is quite epic gets to a point where its sometimes unplayable due to the amount of activity on the map. I will buy RTW2, but not until Gold edition. I will be playing EB2 by that time....... right guys?
