    Default Humanity

So the intro was Amazing, but you know what. There was one subtle part that I'm now Super Excited about!
    The Spartan.

Who watches his comrads jump off a building instead of being enveloped by flames.
They die without an honorable death and the scenes after are even more depressing with a character from each faction looking....sad?
CA spoke about the human face of Rome 2 and hasnt done it since. To many its not that important.
But this small aspect of the intro begs the question if there is going to be more to this.
What part will a Soldiers Humanity play in Rome 2?

Well, they have said soldiers will react to what's going on during the battle (soldiers making comments and such), so yeah I think it's great immersion.

do you think there is only immersion to it? Or will there be more? Not really sure though how it would play a part, maybe in moral?

It sounds like soldiers' comments are tied too their moral. I remember playing Napoleon (as the British) and I zoomed in on a unit and I heard ones of the guys say something like "sarge, where'd his head go?" I thought it was the mod I was using, but I played it unmodded and I heard comments too. So I think the system interweaves moral with the comments; if your soldiers are getting bloodied they'll probably comment on it. At least, that's what they mentioned. But I don't think it will be dramatic.

Oh yeah it's probably something along the lines of this. You can see it in the prologue demos. the guy even mentions it. Soldiers curse and celebrate whenever they beat back a unit and they make comments depending on the situation. So yeah it's an immersion element.

You think wounded men will be cry?
Like young recruits, or men that have some serious injuries.
I also wonder if men will limp if wounded in the leg, or if they get their arm cut off if they can still fight?
Theres alot about how units fight each other they still havnt told us.
I think theyre keeping it as a surprise until we start playing the game though.

I don't think soldiers will beg for their lives in the battlefield but maybe they have some long and agonizing death animations like shogun 2 but even more intense?
As for honorable death, it's a bit romantic to take that as a humanizing aspect of the game don't you think? If anything it's an idealization.
I don't know but a human aspect to me can only imply showing the true consequence of war to the player, peasants getting their houses burned, being sold to slavery and such.

I understand what you mean, the human aspect of war is what happens to civilians in it.
As for the soldiers, I wouldnt mind pleading for their lives before they die.

Well the human aspect is what happens to everyone, soldier, civilian, slave and king right? I don't know what they mean by it, it may be some hamfisted idealization. It may be something really effective. We'll see.

It is going to show realism, men fighting for their lives, we will hear it. The screams, the cries, the shouting,
it's going to be grand. This will be brilliant.

If yo remember the roman soldiers just screamed "THEYRE TRYING TO KILL ME!" during battle for teutoberg forest, lets see if they can state something less obvious 3rd September :p

"O Heracles! The valor of man is vanquished!" - Archidamus son of Agesilaus, King of Sparta, when @ 350 B.C. he first saw a catapult shot

It make me want to play a whole campaign with 2 missile units each army(Javelin/slinger or catapult) but no more than 2 units to make the battle become an arena of the champion instead of a killing job

Army build: 14 infantries, 2 missile 3 cavalry 1 general
let's see if we can restore the sense of valor back to the world

haha added the video in case others hadnt seen it. To me this is probably the best intro that ive seen in a Total War game.
I'm really big intro intro's and this one tells alot about the game.
Its shows the locations of what I think will be the potential super powers, then Ceasar states they should be punished. It shows Rome attacking the other factions. Then Egypt and Sparta fight and fight back against Rome. Then it shows us a glimpse of the "human face of war" (witch is something new to Total War) with the Spartan, and then with a person from each faction finally ending with ceasar as he looks at the map of the world.
    Great Intro.

It did bring a bit of a tear to my eye; seeing that he wanted to help his comrades, but knowing he could do nothing. I also got some chills the first time I saw those scythed chariots round the corner.

I do hope that these things are in gameplay. Men jumping to their deaths instead of burning to death, the wicked sounds of scythed chariots. Men watching with sadness as their comrads die.
This trailer says more than any gameplay ever could.

One of the best details in the original Rome are the soldiers jumping and falling off of walls as they are being pushed back by an attacking unit.

wow that is one of the things I couldn't wait to see the original. If they made the cities in a similar way then I could see this being in Rome 2.
But in this case the soldiers are "willingly" jumping of the burning building. Thats a very intelligent AI. It means it know it will soon go, but it rather do it on its terms. Or burning to death is a really slow and painful ending. They would rather prologue suffering and take a quicker exit. Either way this to me speaks volume on the Human aspect of the game

The atmosphere was there and soldiers will be screaming in terror if they're losing. Roaring and just going mad really. I really can't wait to see how much chaos there will be audio-wise.

However, I can't see how that scene with the Spartan and others would be in the game. The men will jump off buildings as we know there will be some big buildings and that people can go in them, so would like to see that a lot.

The combat audio was fabulous. I just loved the kind of sounds we were hearing when those swords were hitting each other, Gladius off the shield and especially the chariots!
