Default Thread about Rome 2 graphics and how we got here. Rome 2 discussion

    Hey guys, Sun Jetzu here.
After watching the newest Intro Video, I was literally in awe. And that takes alot trust me.
Its shocking how far we have come since the early days of Total War. Now I have never played Shogun/Medieval 1 so I wont comment on it.
But When I first got my hands on Rome Total War, I was dumbfounded on how beautiful the graphics were. I thought dust coming from your armies advance was magical, the grass wafting in the breeze was gorgeous. The hundreds of men under my command looked awesome and I thought it could never get better.
Then Medieval 2 came out and I was literally transported to the middle ages. The jungles and temples of the Aztecs tempted my imagination. Making me dream of having of a standalone Meso-American game (go Mayans!), knowing that this may never happen. Armor shined, elephants skin looked leathery, the climates were more real and for the most part gloomy. Giving the game a sense of age and darkness to it that I wont soon forget.
It was the first Total War if I remember correctly that had choreographed fighting styles and finishing moves, not to mention blood poofs and stains that were included to add some realism to the game. I then thought to my self, well then now things cant get any better. Theres no way. Ignorance. Pure ignorance, and I felt that this was good enough for me.
I played Medieval until I watched a POM battle with Empire units. He zoomed in and showed an outnumbered Austrian soldier fighting off at least ten Ottomans I hadn't got the game hating the idea of line battles. But this changed my mind. I got the game immediately and never looked back. It was hard for me to do so. The graphics and details they added to the units/cities/environments made me feel at home. Or at least like this was my factions home. The trees had small differences, there were small houses and abandoned sheds that you could get your soldiers in.
The smoke from muskets where serene (especially once i added DarthMod).
But my favorite part, was the cannons. The noises from all the guns brought the battlefield to life, it was a symphony of death and destruction.
And I knew this would not be the end of pushing the graphics of the game to their limits.
    And sure enough....
    SHOGUN 2!!!!!!
The peak of what I could have only imagined what Total War could look like. The entire environment felt reminiscent of Final Fantasy. So much beauty added to each man, so many differences in face and in fighting techniques. Everything felt....dare I say REAL??!!
I was sucked into the game like I hadn't been before. I anticipated every battle with glee.
I still to this day play this game the most, through all its faults its hard going back even as far as M2 to play. The reason? Graphics.
Being able to be astonished by a battle and not just witness it.
Even thought the blood effects where a bit comical, they added to the flavor of the game. Everything looked more to life. The once hated rainy battles were now my favorite to witness. The water effect that were added to the game are second to none.
The choreography was just so bad*** , it was light years ahead of any TW since. I watched a guy on horseback throw his naginata at another guy on horse back who fell right off his horse! Like What!!! Its hard to believe that I used to think little pixalated men stabbing at each other randomly was good enough for me.
    Now we have Rome 2.
The jewel of this series performance. Graphics that make every single man different, and in some way have a SOUL. Choreography that will take me hundreds of hours to see every single "style".
After watching this intro I know that this is a completely different animal compared to its ancestors.
A wolf, that surpassed all before it in beauty and in skill.
Now take this thread as you will. The praises of a fan boy, the rantings of a lunatic. Or the thoughts of a Troll.
I dont care, for me this is just my two cents on something that is very important and special in my life, and how its grown into a great
    and wonderful beauty.
