I can't figure it out... :hmmm: I look at the settlement details scroll and I see that my settlement carthage is being devastated to the tune of 141. I see no armies in the provence as it is very small.
Anybody know why this is happening?
thanks

Hmm, have any hostile armies spent any time in that region? Look for black spots on the map. That will indicate areas that are devastated. I'm not sure if it's even possible for devastation to go away completely in BI.![]()
No it is the fire icon in the settlement details scroll. Under income.
Devastation does go away. I noticed if I defeat a brigand army or an enemy, that devastation will go down, or go away completely. But Carthage, it is not.... :hmmm:
that fire icon is unrest youll have to build buildings that increase happiness to make it go away

No, unrest affects public order. Devastation affects settlement income. And the symbols look different.
A big enemy army beseiging your town, or just standing in the countryside will cause a lot of devastation quickly. A small stack will take longer to cause it. Think of it as the enemy ransacking and damaging your area.
Remove that enemy and over time the devastation will go away...until a new enemy appears and causes more.
The rapid spawn rate of rebels often means rebels that are out of sight are responsible. A few watchtowers in the countryside to reveal all your lands is a good way of spotting distant rebels. You can then defeat them before they cause too much devastation.
Devastation is a cost. It reduces your net income from that city.

Just a thought, but maybe the devastation is caused by a rebel vessel holding post on one of your trading routes?
Ships do not reduce trade unless they blockade a port. I have seen rebel ships right on sea trade routes with no effect on sea trade.
Land rebels on roads do impact land trade. There is a drop in the value of the trade route. It does not show up as devastation. If the rebel stack stays there long enough it will both reduce trade value and cause devastation.

Perhaps there is an enemy army in an unseen area of the map?
