Not so much chance for a snow battle.

What do we think of this then, lads? Looks like the seasons won't be determined by the campaign map itself...I suppose that means that each turn really does represent a whole year, with all four seasons playing out simultaneously, so to speak?

    What would Vivaldi say?

He said Not so much of a chance, not no chance. So does that mean I could have a snow battle in the desert?

    Sharpe approves of these developments.

Well, I already know everyday on the strategy map is a bright sunny day. Missing the rainbows and the lucky pots of gold though...

And if weather is only generated in battles, then that was definately a few steps backwards compared to prequels.

Now is the winter of TWC's discontent

if this is the case, then it's not very likely that weather on campaign map will affect attrition. That's actually a bit sad.

This is not all bad... weather maybe could affect attrition but overall climate and terrain was often more important. It was combination of weather, climate, and terrain which usually produced the strongest attrition as diseases flourished in some climates more than others where invaders did not have knowledge of or resistance.

Not all winters are equally severe or summers as dry as others while terrain and climate are fairly constant so I think I prefer this system better.

Here we go! Now it's perma-winter for Northern Europe! What's next? A Cleopatra strip tease cut scenes?

Oh, no. Can't be that . Cutscenes are gone too...

Well, is better think about what we have now,
So this means that weather in battle is a chanche, and the percentage of this chanche depend on the geographic area of battle. So... what determ the attrition? Deserts for sure i think are ever an attrition area, but maybe if you walk on street or oasis you have no attrition\less attrition. About northern europe, alps and area like these, maybe is the same thing, if you march through wilderness you have attrition, if you are in a mountain pass probably you have attrition etc... maybe there are also some land of "always winter"? I don't know, however this mean that now attrition is no more linked to the weather directly, but in more large sense is probably determined by the "antrophization" of an area, so if you are in a steppe you have less supply respect moving in a mediterranea coast. But this will be depend on region developement done expanding cities? or simply certain areas, like german wilderness, will be ever attrition?

Awesome, that means it's an endless summer on the campaign map

But I wonder how often a snow battle will generate in Northern Europe? Or how often a rainy map will appear in a desert region?

I'll say this is a step backwards.

Aelfwine, then, spoke out and valiantly declared: 'Let us call to mind those declarations we often uttered over mead, when from our seat we heroes in hall would put up pledges about tough fighting; now it can be proved who is brave. I am willing to make my lineage known to all, that I was from a substantial family in Mercia. My grandfather was called Ealhelm, a wise nobleman blessed with worldly wealth. The thanes among that people shall not reproach me for my wanting to get out of this army, to make my way home, now that my lord leader is lying hacked down in battle. To me that is the greatest grief: he was both my kinsman and my lord." Then he moved forward and turned his attention to revenge, so that with his spear he struck a seaman among the army so that he lay dead among the ground, destroyed by his weapon. Then he exhorted his comrades, his friends and companions, that they should advance.

Wait, but when they showed the Suebi, it was winter. Is it always winter in Germany?

ignoring some of the talk here, I personally believe this is a step back.

My army marching somewhere and I dont know if it will be winter or summer when I fight. Are you kidding me?

Lol I was thinking the same ... Its a completely lack of any strategical deepness of the campaign design ... Sure battlefields might look even good but ... strategy ? where is it?

But where was the strategical deepness in stactic weather patterns? Like Shogun 2, what benefits where there in marching out of your contolled regions in winter? All that would happen is your armies would get affected by attrition.

Maybe weather will work in the same sort of way in how tsunami worked in SG2, in that it only effected certain regions of Japen, not the whole of Japen. Especially now that CA have said that they are making groups of regions into provinces. So for example; province X gets affected by "bad weather" for x amount of turns, which will have negative effects on your army if it occupying that province. IMO that would give the campaign map far more immersion/strategical deepness than having stactic weather patterns effect the whole campaign map. Because why would fighting a winter war in more temperate/hotter climates say in North Afirca, have the same effects as fighting a winter war in Northen Europe? Wouldn't this add more depth in making weather actually being more regional based, than effecting the whole campaign map?

I'm not fond of this idea. But I'll see how it is when I get the game.
