Phoenicia had lost their statehood long before the 3rd century B.C. to the Persians and then to Alexander the Great. My understanding is that the region kept a distinctive character but was eagerly embracing Hellenistic culture. In fact, some parts of Lebanese society claim that their people are direct descendants of the Phoenicians. Other than on Wikipedia, you can read about Phoenicia here: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/2331/...#link2H_4_0023.
At the start of Rome II, the Seleucids own Phoenicia as part of the Syria province. Historically though, the region belonged to Ptolemaic Egypt and it is only until 198 or 197 B.C. that it reverted to Seleucid rule.
So here are my questions:
At the start of Rome I, the area (correctly) belongs to the Egyptians but in Rome II, it's under Seleucid rule. So is this another case of sacrificing historical accuracy for gameplay purposes?
Do you think that Phoenicia will somehow be incorporated into the game (apart from Carthage which was originally a Phoenician colony)? If the people of Tyre decide to rebel, will the rebels be called "Phoenician rebels"? Also, could there be some unique Phoenician units included?
