Default Camps, Forts, Fortresses, and Walls

To my knowledge, there has been no mention of fortifications which can be built by an army (only city walls and gates). Will they be in Rome 2? I hope they are in the game as this was a great feature in the original RTW which was missing from Shogun 2.

It would be great if you could build camps which could be upgraded to forts which could further be upgraded into fortresses which could further be developed into regional walls. Such defenses would be great for defending choke points such as mountain passes, bridges, etc. They could have a large deployment zone so that any enemy armies passing by would be forced to siege and engage the fort.

There's been some discussion on forts but as far as I know nothing official from CA other than they do exist. The way things are shaping up don't get your hopes up. Im thinking the only forts in game will be the one your army creates in defend mode and probably fixed and not upgradable, just don't know for sure. I hope there is more to it.

Sad to hear. They prob don't want forts because the AI might be tempted to build them and just sit there (it often did this as I recall). That problem could be fixed by making forts unoccupiable by armies. Instead only a small number of garrison troops would spawn to defend the fort. Regardless, the ancient world did have lots of forts so they should be in.

I would really love to see some proper Roman Forts... They had a great strategical importance in the roman expenditions ( securing strategic points, secure from enemy raids etc) and i think they have to be represented in an accurate way. But we cant always have exactly what we want...

It would be sad if there was not a proper emphasis on forts this time around. If you look particularly at the Greek peninsula and surrounding areas, you will see that there are plenty of places that a fort could easily lock down. An opportunity missed if CA thought forts were not that beneficial.

Personally I'd love to see Hadrians Wall

But it's not a selling point for me, that is to say, I've already preordered.

In RTW I still made Hadrian's Walls (sort of) by just chaining the forts together and leaving small garrisons in them of a couple of units, 1 melee(spear) 1 archer.

I hope the same thing can be done this time around, forts and camps were very important, especially for the Romans when they were trying to conquer a region.

IIRC when your army is in the defensive stance on the campaign map, fortifications are built - something along the lines of if the army has only just entered defensive stance then perhaps the only benefits will be ideal battlegrounds, but if your army has been in defensive stance for some time then you will have a palisaded camp to defend along with earth works, ditches, stakes etc etc etc.

But if you're referring to permanent stone fortresses on the campaign map then I believe no, thats not happening.

That discussion rises every once in a while , It was answered by Jack lusted that there will be sieges , there will be forts ,

But according to what I personally have read around , the Sieges will only be for 3/4 of the cities 53 I think over 187 total while the forts might just be an eyecandy on the battlefields like a palizade and an encirclement with it around a flag ...

this last is just a quess from another picture they showed of about the weather.

You know i think 187 sieges would be a little too much ...also i prefer 53 unique sieges than 187 boring sieges that are all the same.

About the weather picture i think it was a capture point and not a fort??i may be wrong so if someone could add something ,please do it

I can not imagine the Roman legions that do not place camps everywhere they go, but unfortunately, seems to me that this game option conflicts with the policy of CA "not too many sieges"

You could upgrade your forts in RTW?!

That upgradable fort system you described would be awesome. Wont be happening in Rome II though. Unfortunately.
