problems with installation of ThirdAge mod

hey guys,
I've got a problem with the installation of the Third Age mod. I had it already installed and it worked perfectly fine, but after I un- and reinstalled it, because I thought the submods would work afterwards, I couldn't play anymore. When I start the game it only shows me the loading screen for a few seconds and without anything else the game ends.
I tried downloading and installing it all over again - no success.
So I looked up some youtube vids about the installation and I've recognized that in my ThirdAge3 folder there are several things missing, although I've installed everything. (3.0 part 1 and 2; 3.1 and 3.2).
I only see the data and preferences folder, icon, TATW.cfg, TATW_3_0_unit_stats and "Third Age" where I can also start the game I think.
Win8, the "normal" game has the 1.04 patch and I'm not using steam. I installed everything in the correct order but it just won't work.
I hope someone can help me with that.

Hi there and welcome to TWC Forums!

Wrong installation.. There is a link in my signature bellow called: " EK's Install Thread". There are installation steps with pictures, and these are the ones you need to do:
1. Edit security for your main M2TW folder ( or use the TakeOwnership.reg method)
2. Unhide hidden folders and check the VirtualStore for M2TW folder and delete it.
3. Delete manually failed Third_Age_3 folder from your main ..M2TW/ mods folder.

4. Install all four Third Age Installers, double/ triple check all installation paths for each Installer! They all have to be installed into your .../ Medieval II Total War folder.

5. For battle crashes disable daylight savings, open your Date and Time ( your PC Clock) go to Time Zone, Change Time Zone, and, uncheck "Automatically adjust daylight saving setting". Apply and OK.

That`s probably because you saw it on Youtube, those guys had a submod installed in their Third_Age_3 folder, so that is why you saw more folders and files ( MOS has lot of them for example ) .

ok I've got another problem :/ already had this one once and the game worked after resetting the whole system to a certain point (before I had to install a windows update). After this update though I always get the message that this program (Medieval) isn't compatible with my operating system and I have to upgrade it to Win2000, XP, Vista or a newer version although I have Win8. Is there another way that resetting the whole system because that's really annoying

Ah, Windows 8... Have you tried to run it in Compatibility mod? Right mouse click on your M2TW shortcut and find the Compatibility mod, then set it to run with Windows 7 or even XP. Apply and OK.

Have you tried to run it as an Administrator? Right mouse click on shortcut and Run as Admin.

Edit: If that doesn't work, I would suggest to uninstall M2TW, run Registry Cleaner ( CCleaner is good and is free) delete manually Sega/ Medieval II TW folder from the default location in which was installed.. And, Install M2TW somewhere else than in the default Program Files ( x86) , maybe make a new folder (GAMES for example ) and install it there. Don't use Autoplay Setup, go to your M2TW DVD Drive, and run manually Setup.exe application, it will allow you to change installation path.

if I try to run it as admin I get the messages that kingdoms.exe and C:\G5BAISwitcher.vbs were not found. I'll try the other one

the odd thing is that it worked before -.- and overnight I suddenly got this error message

Try not to run it as an Administrator, and, are you using some submod perhapse.. MOS ?

yep I am using MOS
but it wasn't a problem at first and the problem also occured when I didn't have the submods. And the normal Medieval and other older games won't work as well

Well, you should first get Medieval II to work, then you can install TATW + submods..

It would be best if you make a thread regarding your M2TW not working in The Main M2TW Tech Help Forum. Irishron has more experience in getting it to work than me.

ok thanks ^^ the annoying thing is that everything worked perfectly fine before (Medieval II and TW+submods) and all of a sudden I can't play any older games :/

btw i have only downloaded 3.2 it said it was enough however in my third age folder i only have

data

preferences

yes like once before. There I could reset my system to the point before the update but now I can't :/
