Yes, it is looking nicer than earlier pics, but what is missing so far in R2 is the lack of/disharmony of art within the GUI. As has oftimes been mentioned, the unit cards don't match the period well, but at least it's Hellenic art in some form. I'm kind of wishing the more subtle areas had work done on them; borders, info boxes buttons, and the like all seem very plain and utilitarian. No vines and creepers? No curlicued edged or doric columns going up the sides of pop up boxes? It may be a minor thing, but all TW titles in the past had that extra patina of artistic influence in them.

Yes, it's absolutely horrid. The UI looks completely rushed and one has to wonder what they were thinking with the entire concept. It could easily have been done much better. It makes no sense to have a bland, futuristic UI for this sort of game.

Heh, I'm not sure about the entire Mediterranean but here in Portugal we have very long and tall cliffs :p
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

In Greece i think the same applies, most of the entire coast is actually very tall cliffs.

Hope they do the cliffs of the British isles correctly. I want to line them with Iceni warriors and throw things at Romans.

Essentially this, but with more blue paint...

Maybe CA should just stop releasing any new screenshots, videos or interviews. Seems all they garner are complaints.

I think CA is smart enough to know that forum posters that whine and moan account for a small percentage of those who will be buying this game. Sure, even I have some gripes and issues and I know we'll have plenty of problems and drawbacks to the game.. but at the end of the day it's just a game among many. I'll be buying it regardless and so will 99% of their target demographic.

I can't believe all the complaining about cliffs and trees on the campaign map! I agree with Fedual that the edges define where you can and cannot land.

Thanks for the ridiculously ugly coastlines, CA!

Just...looking at those spam of cliffs makes me sad. Shogun II had such a detailed coast, with smooth coastlines and no oversized cliffs. Then why is this so bad?

And that is if you ignore the blocky mess they have made. Islands are not like squares and rectangles or any polygons.

Right!! i understand that's for gameplay but they could have reduced it a little...it seem that evry cliff is high 1000meters XD.

If you want a visual effect for landing just use sand to indicate them and keep the rest unchanced

I agree, the map can use less cliffs or just place cliffs to regions that truly has it along the cost.

Something I just noticed, look at the distance into Egypt. It appears the Blemmyes are encroaching on Memphis.

People need to stop moaning. We should be thankful that CA are releasing Rome Total War 2. Not many companies listen to their fans, but at least CA were nice enough to listen and bring us what we wanted. Ok some things might not be historically correct, some of the campaign map might not be as beautiful as some people would of liked. But at least we have a game.

A camel in Greece? I looked at the screenshot and I think it's Sparta at the extreme right. Maybe I'm wrong, but if the next city to the left is Athens there a camel on the road between the two. Anyone else see this?

Camels were used in Greece as they were captured after the defeat of the Persians. Not sure how long they were used for though

I did not know that. Thanks. Now that I think about it, camels were even used over here in the Old West for a while.

They were also used here in northeast Brazil, a semi-arid place, but it didn't work out because camel feet were made to walk on sedimentary terrain, like deserts, and the terrain here is crystalline.

    Guys,

there is really a lot going in this pic. Take some time to zoom in the north. Soooo many different armies. Seems like Macedon is very powerful with several large armies and navies. Looks like the distant tribes and fighting each other. I dont see some of the wonders, so I am guessing, the map is still being reworked. You can see two different kinds of navies south of Greece. One has one sail and the other has three. Seems to be many large armies, the AI for sure will be ready and not a push over. Cliffs are huge but needed to prevent us from just landing any place. I cant wait!!!

yup one of the main reasons the Spartans lost at Thermopylae is because they were fascinated with the feet of Persian camels

A terrible joke i know, could come one give a link to camels in the old west?
