You do realize that TWR2 appears to be zoomed in closer than in FOTS. As for colors you have to remember that FOTS is stormy and gloomy. Just look at the grey sky in those screenshots. There are greater bloom effects and brighter colors because the map is most likely set in a sunny/bright day. Not a stormy one. I'm not denying that the map has problems, though. A bit of rescaling and the removal of those cliffs on the shore would make the map look a lot better in my opinion.

I would like to point out that Trajans column should not be relied upon for historical authenticity as it is an artists representation. Its also part Roman propaganda.
About the cliffs you are wrong wrong wrong wrong! the cliffs make it easy and not to miss by mistake a landing point, i was skeptic in the beginning but now when you think about it from a gameplay perspective it is great

He's not "wrong wrong wrong wrong".

You might like it from a gameplay perspective, whatever that's supposed to mean, but it still looks ghastly. Especially the islands, which all seem to rise 300 feet out of the water, are an eyesore. Crete for instance, does have a very rocky shore, with many cliffs, but on the maps the shore looks like the Wall from A song of Ice and Fire. And to make matters worse there is some very obvious clipping between the cliffs and the ports (two static objects), as you can see at the bottom of the screenshot.

A little more creativity and effort should've been put into the shores so that they'd look more natural.

Never have I seen such amount of armies and navies!

    Looking EPIC!

Seems the smaller Greek states (Pergamon for Instance) will not be walkovers.

Wondering about the upkeep of Macedon; they got some big stacks around!

Nice screenshot. I much prefer the current campaign aesthetic over the gloomy, dull style used in FOTS. Very reminiscent of Rome 1.

Is FOTS really that great? i hear people constantly talking about it and i haven't played it yet. I thought Shogun 2 was enough for me and i didn't really dig the setting of FOTS.

    Is it that worth playing?

No it is not. But the campaign map is gorgeous.

If you want Shogun 2 with more guns and cannons you'll like FOTS. Strategically a lot of the game is trying to outrace your allies (since there are two big ally blocks, shogun and imperial) in getting territory.

I liked both the Shogun 2 and FOTS maps and their art UI. Both were immersive and the art complemented them. Rome 2 is really missing that unified art style which drives home the setting.

Ironically, I prefered FoTS, despite the fact that I hated ETW and (to a lesser degree) Napoleon. I think the two alliances and the necessity for a mix of melee and gun units made for very good strategic gameplay in battles.

    LUUUUURV THIS!

What I'm loving the most is the colours. They really give the campaign map some life. A great atmosphere. Also, I love how every single General actually looks different. Both of the Spartan Generals look different. With the Romans, you see one General in Lorica Segmentata and the other in an earlier-looking version of equipment. Really digging this!

Means a lot that you're giving us more info, CA, we really appreciate this!!! It's a great way to make these 5 or so weeks go a LOT faster
I don't know even know what CA are going to show us next but am super excited haha

EDIT: My two denarii on the skull symbol: Either it is attrition, but there's no snow? Or maybe that army was attacked and chose to retreat but it symbolises the fact that the army has no more movement points and there are no reinforcements nearby, basically meaning that it's the army's last stand?

I guess the red skulls represent attrition. The banner with skull and bones crossed might represent the raiding stance.

There is also a tower (defensive stance)
    an eye (ambush)
Caduceus (rest/muster stance ? the pergamene armies who have it also have the red aura that armies with the red skulls have)
Horse head and men (i don't know, i would have said forced march, but it's only on boats, so maybe transport ship ?)
The spartan army near a city too has a strange symbol, looks like a magical wand lol, but maybe a torch ?

Was wondering about those myself and I think your right about the symbols on the flags, Tower (defensive stance), Eye (ambush) and if it is a Torch? then that could mean raiding a province burning the farms and so on.

The Skull and cross bones on a flag means that an army is suffering attrition, the Red skull above an armies flag more then likely means disease within a province.

Possible, as all the red skulls are within Macedonia. But the armies suffering it are also all on mountain roads.

There are one army with the skull and bones besieged in Ephesus and the Knossos army in Crete. So indeed, maybe it's not the raiding stance...

I was thinking along the same lines. Perhaps heat exhaustion or attrition? Napoleon TW had the threat of armies losing men through the winter months (apart from a few factions, Russia I believe was one of them)
