    Default Witches,wizards,dragons oh my

Ok, no dragons but, Was anybody else a little worried by the amount of excitement of dom, telling about the witch like agent the germans get with skulls etc. I bet Rome gets harry potter as general and gandalf defends the walls of Carthage against the attacking mumakil from far harad [http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Mumakil].

around min 5 "coolest agent.staff bearing cloked with skullz etc"

Playing this game will be like reading Asterix, and call me odd, but I absolutely love that idea. In my book, they're free to go ahead and play on clichées and semi-historical accuracy that I immediately recognize. I'm aware of it and will enjoy the game for what it is and not for its historical accuracy. I just hope that mod support is sufficient enough that I can rely on getting some deep, researched and real historically accurate mods for it in the future. Like Barbarorum. We'll see; in the meantime - bring the witches and Gandalfs right on!

Please do not insult the comic ASterix and its authors Goscinny and Udzerzo. It is full of historical parody, deviation, etc ...
Really it has far more depth than your avergare comedy or in your face (action) comics or movie.

There is no record or artifacts of Orcs dipomats. Does that mean we can create Orcs diplomats the way we want and claim it to be accurate ? No that's absurds. Beside it you can clearly see with all the skulls and other useless details that those models are overly stylized and fantasist. Rich germanics clothes would have been enough.

'You' think it's ridiculous. I can't see an uproar about it. I like it and I'm pretty sure that many others do too.

You know, to put it straight, sometimes real life IS boring. CA are spicing things up and making these specific individuals look better and more appealing. There's nothing interesting about normal. If this bit was completely historical, the agents would look boring as hell.
I personally invite you to check out my complete combat overhaul which will give you a completely new Rome 2 experience:

I say history is not boring and more fun, but my point is if we add wizards, why not make a full fantasy why sell and act like its a historical game [Rome] why not have dragons etc and create a fatacy game and advertise as such?. Is it really more fun to have a agent that looks like a witch?.

God, how ignorant can someone be?
They are called wizzards and witches because people believed they have some supernatural abilities (or are at least connected to supernatural beeings) in that time.
Do they use any magic in the game? NO!
They are most likely the cultural agents which are allready known and THAT IS AUTHENTIC. Why? Because they where an integral part of their culture.
They don't burn entire armies with their magic powers or turn lead into gold.

Maybe they should make a game where every minute is a real minute? Marching for several years actually takes several years.
I can't stand those stupid with time lapse. They could actually make ceasar a man with long white beard and a very large hat, because I didn't remember that they where able to hit "end turn" to jump magically into the next year.
That's a game and your rant is biggest bull I have read for long time...

They are just cool to see ... they made them cool couse is a germanic faction and they did had not any reference about them so they let the artists go wild with imagination and free artistic licence ...

too bad then that they didn't do the same with most of other factions to make them look cooler ... for example the romans are stuck between cool and historicity , not reaching any of the two sides and stay in the middle , resulting so pretty bland and uninteresting while the germans got more love and attention because of the possible free licence ... I wouln't be suprised to see some Conan the barbarian stuff perhaps ...

i say they look cool to a 5 year old or in lotr. They look stupid in a suposidley historical game. Why is historical not cool in your opinion? and if you say historical = not cool, than why even play tw? why not warcraft lotr etc there are plenty of other games to play that will look really cool for you.

I actually agree with you , despite my post might seem the countrary , but I just posted how CA envisions history for their game ... if something is historically correct but not cool and kids won't say wow then cut it and replace with something unhistorical but Cool ... = more sales more gains ...

You do know that more sales = more money for creating the next TW game? And they have to leave something for the modders to do.

I thought the Total War Series was about rewriting history, so in a way it's like fantasy considering mythology will be present in the end game even if it isn't hugely involved. In the end all I see is realistic looking agents for the Germans/Celts, the druids wouldn't be as far fetched either, I'm pretty sure people took religions/fantasies seriously back then so in a way, this theme seems to make sense to me. If you think about it, skulls were symbols of victories and rituals among other things. Fantasies are also made up with imagination which humans possess, so a lot of TW players probably roleplay and thus generate fantasy within their minds about conquering the entire Europa region. Honestly I don't see anything wrong with these agents appearances.

In my opinion, I think debating some of the minor points about the game is healthy. Yes, CA got it so wrong with ETW and NTW, but they made great strides with the STW2 series (certainly from a character immersion point of view). R2TW will take their progress even further - all a good thing. As for witches, dragons and other fantasy shite, Im surprise Game of Thrones Total War hasnt rated a mention thus far. Anyway, the original post on this thread is really moot...........................
i loved empire. and what you call minor is major in my opinion.

yes because no one will buy rome 2 unless there is a witch lol. Somehow a witch is cool as well, again for 5 year old sure.

And that comes from a guy who believe in a imaginary friend....

it was my opnion that thinking a witch like that as agent was "cool" would be agreed upon by most all 5 year old's. Not sure what imaginary friend you speak of, but lets cut the crap and just have you decline a debate offer in the fight club now on anything related to atheism vs Christianity.

Pretty sure ancient cultures had druids and other special members of the tribes who were thought of as witches, yes they had no magical powers but they were there so how is putting special agents in the game that may be based on these people inaccurate and fantasy?

This guy makes the point: there actually were "Wizards" and "Druids" and "Witches" in those tribes... spooky silly beliefs, of course, as silly as the Greek idea that mighty Zeus from time to time came down to Earth dressed as a bull to bang some unexpecting bride... but as long as those "Druids" or "Witches" are not going to use magical skills in the game, but rather simply fill the role of priests, there is no reason to prepare for dragon cavalry as next step.
