Default Junia Family - Gathering dust in my R2TW world

So let me get this straight, playing as the Junia Family the only real bonuses I'll get are some extra grain from the less important regions I conquer and the Latin people of the Italian peninsula will be less inclined to revolt against me. Well Im sorry CA, you may as well have not included these duds. Seriously, if you need a buff to help you break out of the Italian peninsula in Rome total War 2 it sounds like you couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. From what we can see and hear on the new clip, there are no military bonuses for the Junia and apparently you're predestined to be a diplomatic and political flop (by the sounds if it you're going to be flat out getting a job as a Quaestor's PA - one who'd fumble any attempt to establish a Pax Romana with even the most vanquished foe). Yet when you read the Junia's description we're led to believe they're one of ''the most respectable Republican families in Rome''. It's with little wonder that I had to Wikipedia the Junia clan to work out who the hell they were in history (and I found out that ''Ides of March" Brutus ranks among their number - could have at least made these guys good assassins or something)! For me it's all the way with Cornelia and Julia. The game looks sensational though - I really cant wait to play it. No Junia for me though.

I hope you understand that the Junia is the faction that you choose if you feel like a challenge? It's more of a gameplay addition than anything.

Is that your opinion Raimeken or do you know this for a fact? Is there any evidence to back up what you're saying because to me your assertion doesn't make sense. If the Junia were meant to be a ''challenge'' then why give them any perks at all? The perks they have just suck - seriously. They're a distraction if anything else. If the Junia is meant to be a challenge then give them no perks.

I disagree, just because you don't like the perks given to the Junia doesn't mean they suck.

I can understand you picking them if you want a challenge - but would really pick them because you like their perks? Compared to the two other Roman families, the Junia dont rate. This is my main point - compared to the other two families they do suck. There's no choice if you're going for perks - the Junia's just don't seem interesting. Come on - someone back me up here...................YOU KNOW IT.

The Junia's perks are not really build for the warmonger. They have a 10 percent bonus on wealth for Agricultural buildings and better public order for Latin population, with their downside being -15 realtionship with all factions. I think that 10 percent bonus is a significant bonus to your economy. In Shogun 2, a fully developed farm would produce a profit of 2400 (I think). That is (according to Shogun 2) 240 extra with the agricultural bonus. This doesnt seem to be a huge profit, but this is for just one region. Then there is the Latin public order bonus. Yes this seems somewhat useless, but this isn't restricted to Italy alone. As far as I know, factions are able the spread their culture, and thus the Romans are able to spread the Latin culture. So everywhere the Junia has spread their culture they get a public order bonus, that can open more possibilities because you can piss your population off somewhat more than others.

I would dare to say they are made to be a more cultural or economic faction, rather than be a militairy one. They will be harder to play because everyone hates them due to the relationship penalty.

I think you're underrating their bonuses, in particular "founding fathers" which gives you a public order bonus for the presence of Latin culture. You take a province, even non-cultured, and after you get an influx of Latins from cultural conversion the whole region will be easier to govern. Now picture this in a large empire with 40-50 regions.. Yeah.

Even if they were made for challenge I doubt people will waste their time and choose to play as Rome again, instead of factions which are hard from the start (like Sparta or Athens).

we don't know much yet about the game's dynamics - for all you know, you may be really pleased with a public order bonus at home if that means you don't need to deal with a slave rebellion or a civil war back at home while campaigning in spain miles away. it could be a boon - but you will have to wait and see how the game plays to know if the bonus means anything to you.

I'm personally looking forward to the Junia, fighting my way through the other families and gaining considerably more income through mass agriculture, not to mention the people will be more easy to control in turbulent times when a civil war may ensue.

What they mean with cultural conversion ? Can we make ethnic cleansing and settle Romans then ?

The regular kind of cultural conversion, as in local people abandoning their own culture over time to that of their rulers.
