I'm interested and annoyed by the fact that nobody has raised the issue of Julia's conquest-centric bonuses and intended play-style. People seem to take this for granted, but the Julian line was almost as old as the Cornelian or Junian lines, but it was only the VERY LAST (direct) Julian family member who made it famous, and gave it its Military glory! Why is the entire line based around the one famous guy?
The Julians should be the public-order centred Roman Family, and the Cornelians should be the Conquest centred family. Sure, let the Junians keep their Republicanism, but our old friend JC was the only Julian worth mentioning who didn't fit the bill, and he was still a Populare, and a massive hit with the mob.
On the other hand, you have the Scipii, who are renowned as being the most aggressive and established Roman family of the Republic in terms of Military conquest and foreign policy! If I wanted to play the Roman campaign as an all-out death-fest, I know my first choice would be the Cornelii (Scipii), and if I wanted to play as the underdog with a deeply political and hard-fought struggle to the top ... style campaign, then I'd play as the Julii!
...but if I wanted to sit on my arse and watch the world close in on me while shouting conservative jibber-jabber from my seat overlooking the Forum Romanum, then I'd go for the Junii (Brutii (who else?!)).
My point is that I'd like to see a mod change the political bonuses and motivations of the existing Roman factions.
Let me know what you think. Perhaps, like me, you would have liked to see alternative Roman families (like the Aurelii, Aemelii or Claudii).
