I think that regional units can greatly freshen up the game, and I hope that there will be many of them. This thread is of course based on the hope that there's more to regions than just the mercenaries shown on the campaign planner.
For example, imagine a Roman or Arverni player who isn't history-savvy invading the Alps, expecting to encounter an army of Celts just like the ones he faced previously, only to find himself face to face with a bunch of funny looking dudes in some sort of pseudo phalanx.
Or how about a Suebi player who thinks his men are the bravest and most furious in all of Germania, who then gets a rather wild and hairy surprise in the form of Chatti warriors?
What about the various Greek city states, and their many different twists on traditional Greek fighting styles?
The potential for variety is basically unmatched in Rome II's setting. I hope CA put it to good use.
