My only question now is will reinforcements be affected by 40 unit armies? Can you say have 2 40 unit armies or will having 2 40 unit armies in a battle result in the 2nd being held off the field as reinforcements? Either way good news as it makes my creeping suspicion of having 40 unit city garrisons to be true !!!

As far as what was said one of the attendees of the San Francisco event asked Al directly and he confirmed it. Now if he's lying I'm not sure but Will,Jack & Craig were in here earlier and they usually like to squash any mis-information so more than likely it is true friend

If this is true it's COMPLETELY made up for the lack of pre-battle speeches. It's something I've always wanted for the TW series, especially for those of us with the PC's to handle it.

    40 units per stack?

    How about reinforcements?

How can you control 40 units? Do you have to shift tabs or can you control all 40 at screen at the same time?

Can someone PLEASE!!! either 100% confirm or 100% deny if there will be multicore utilisation in the game? We know you are aware of the problem, that's not a valid answer 1 month before release. I don't mean to sound angry, but I really don't want to relive the melee lag of Shogun 2 (even with superb specs)

EDIT: Or at the very least tell us that you've gotten rid of rendering unit detail and shadows through the CPU... All this talk of better animations and more details have me worried to say the least if you haven't made any breakthroughs when it comes to CPU utilisation...

Your right, my friend. Though we have to say that full multicore support is hard to achieve, so we should not expect this.
But the fact that unit details and shadows settings are a CPU intensive setting, and not a GPU one, the main reason of melee lag, is
Disclaimer: the post above is way way prealpha, the final version will be way better than this.

I'm actually quite glad they kept army sizes at 20 units, along with everyone else who can't afford to spend £1000+ on a new pc. It means I can still play on high settings wit hlarge unit sizes and my army will still be an easily manageable size.

Agreed. Tried 40 units stacks with Empire and it melted my PC.

I don't miss it either. Why would I need 40 stack armies? From a strategical point it's nonsense. I rather have 2 stacks with which I can perform multiple tasks than just 1 big army. If I want to amass them in one big battle I can still move them so that they can fight together. And managing 40 units at once is too much for me anyway. I would have to use the pause button all the time.

So basically because you want to micro manage your twenty units to death the rest of us should suffer? We want the option for 40 unit stacks. You can still have your quaint 20 unit stack battles in the privacy of your own SP experience.

There is nothing nonsensical about 40 unit stacks considering the weakness of the BAI. It is in fact one of the most requested features according to CA.

The idea is simply for those of us who like to play with bigger battles get the option to do so. Good grief my old Nehalem with a GTX 460 can run this.

40 unit stacks require unit upkeep costs to be modified to accommodate larger armies, like in Darth's NTW mod. Yes it's more challenging and there is always the slow motion button when things get a little chaotic. 40 unit stacks give the AI a better chance to inflict damage on your army, plus it provides a more realistic battle size, and the player has more interesting options like reserves which is not a bad thing.

In the end I fear CA didn't want to mess with the balancing of the recruitment and upkeep costs for this option, which is a shame. Given the demand for this kind of feature though I hope it will be easy to mod it.

It's also confirmed that there won't be a possibility to integrate vasalls/client states in your empire... without using force of course. That's sad! I don't want to fight Nova Carthage, they are my own people!

If that is the case, it's a bit disappointing.

I don't see why you would need anything more than 20vs.20 + maybe some ships, would be hard to Manage and I am a pretty good TW player.

Simply to try to recreate a true battlefield, with reinforcements and reserves. Not just two lines of units that crush frontal each other and "that'all folks!" in a couple of minutes...
