    Default Well that sucks...

I've been playing as Milan for 152 turns now and control 38 territories. Well, apparently I only have 1 family member remaining (leader) after the wars with France, HRE, England, Scotland, and my current war with Hungary. Unfortunately, I didn't even realize this until about 3 turns ago when I lost 2 other generals. At turn 153 my last family member dies and all my provinces turn to rebel settlements and I haven't found a way to get around it.

I don't have any daughters to marry to foreign generals, no chances for adoption, 80% of my cities have the plague, and my territories are overrun with Hungarian armies/assassins. Even if I could manage getting my leader off the front, he has to run a gauntlet of enemy armies, assassins, and plague.

An entire 20 hour campaign, lost due to negligence.

Anyone else ever screwed up like this?

Weird, if you had so few family members, then you must have fought many battles with armies led by a captain, you mean you didn't get any man of the hour event proposing to adopt that general??

The plague takes max 5 turns to get rit of, if u do i right. When there is a plague in your city dont make more troops and dont bring any more troops into the city. Then is shouldnt last long before it dies out. Remmeber to check Carakter plague icon.

I was getting a lot of Man of the Hour chances when I fought France and HRE but I didn't take them because I had way more generals than I needed. But Hungary has been man handling me for several turns now and hasn't given me many chances. Most of my recent battles have just been a couple stacks of regular troops supporting what few generals I still had. Then Hungary wiped that floor with them and I was left with the 1. It's been about 90 turns of constant war, with France and HRE being fought at the same time, then England jumped in right before I kill France, then Hungary jumped in right before I finished HRE. It has been relentless and none of them would allow peace.

I was going to contain the plague but I completely forgot that I had it when I started playing again, now it's a serious problem with almost every settlement infected. The only areas that aren't infected are Dublin, Nottingham, London, Edinburgh, and Iverness.

I completely screwed this campaign up but I'm determined to get my leader to safety until I can get an adoption or MotH.

You could also try to acquire generals via bribery, it's costly but it's worth it considering your entire campaign is at stake.

To maintain royal family continuity, you'd have to bribe a general onto your side, and actually adopt him (via Man of the Hour or the non-battle adoption system) into your family, right? Or would bribing him to join your faction alone be enough?

Bribing him does bring him into your faction, I believe. I don't think you can have any generals that aren't part of your family tree, except those from the start of the game that are already that way. Kinda silly.

What makes this even worse is that this would have been my first campaign victory in the game. I usually get frustrated around turn 100 and start cheating but I wanted to actually do it right for once. I didn't even know you could lose the game like this. I tried to find someone to bribe for another general but no one is close enough that doesn't want to see me burned at the stake, I also only have 1 turn to make something happen since my leader is currently being swarmed near Budapest.

I'm chalking this one up to a lesson learned and I'm taking every adoption and MotH from now on. I don't care if I have an army with nothing but generals, this stuff can't happen again.

Perhaps TW isn't the right genre for you

I've beaten a couple of the other Total War games. It's just all the backstabbing that drives me crazy in this. I don't trust anyone.

At least in Shogun 2 I know they are going to back stab me eventually as part of the game. It's the suspense that kills me in this.

    Backstabbing occurs when you either:

    a) grow too big too fast

    b) aggravate the diplomacy of your neighbors.

I'm speaking of SS mod of course, where diplomacy has some modicum of normality.

I made a huge land grab and wiped out France, then moved North and took out England/Scotland while moving east to destroy HRE. That's what they get for attacking me while I was trying to mind my own business. I had like 5-7 stacks in that region just steamrolling everyone, only lost Dijon to HRE for about 15 turns but eventually took it back. It was rough on my bank though, I went bankrupt for awhile but I finally started turning a profit again after a couple armies got destroyed.

The only thing I wanted to do was take on Spain and Denmark then sail down to take Constantinople and win the game but Hungary basically said "nope" and started flooding me with armies. Byzantium was taking shots at some island cities but I had them well garrisoned since Spain and the Moors kept camping outside of them.

Overall, it was a fun campaign so there's still that.

Bribing? In Med II? Isn't it just cheaper to make nine giant armies and be at war with the world?

I doubt bribed generals come into the family tree but who knows... It's possible to get generals that are not in the family tree during the game if you mod a bit and make general's bodyguard recruitable.

I know this thread is a few days old so it probably doesn't matter now anyways but I was going to suggest that you go fight some brigands. Reading over your posts, I'd imagine your kingdom has them running around everywhere.

Just send a couple units of junk units defending a city to kill a small force of brigand junk units and BOOM, MOTH.

Isn't this exactly how all empires throughout history have ended?
