confiration about Athens?
Hey guys, I remember reading on steam something about Epirus having well rounded units and Athens having a strong navy. So, is it confirmed that Athens will have the strongest navy out of all the Greek city states because if so i'll have to rethink my campaign plan.
Thanks in advance.

Re: confiration about Athens?
According to this: http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/Total_War...Athens_Faction It seems that Athens will indeed have a very strong navy, but weaker land soldiers to compensate. There are also cultural advantages, so my guess is that the Athenians are meant to secure their immediate vicinity and then expand overseas and run a Colonial Empire. I'm sure this doesn't mean that their armies 'suck', they just aren't as superior as the Spartans or Macedonians.

Re: confiration about Athens?
This really isn't related to my thread but it would be pretty damn funny if in the spartan trailer u saw those red cloaked bucket head spartans from rome 1 moving in for a kill

I think an interesting Athenian strategy might be to try and overpower and Vassalize the Spartans early. Maybe doing so will give you limited access to Spartan infantry, which could balance out your supposed deficiency in infantry.

It calls their armies "less developed," which to me says they're just going to lack elite units. I can see Athens fielding mobs of rank-and-file thorakitai and lacking any real elite like the Spartiatai or Hetarioi.

Weren't Athenian hoplites awesome fighters? They are not Spartans but I'd reckon they are as good as Thebans...

Re: confiration about Athens?
Given the historical fact that in the 3rd c. BC Athens had not the slightest military meaning at all (unlike the Aetolian and Achaean leagues, Rhodos and for some part Sparta), CA had to choose some gimmicky lore for them. AKA sea power, long long gone in the real world but presumably well remembered.

Re: confiration about Athens?
why is it so hard to spell titles properly these days?
@OP the faction description of Athens already answers your question.
